WTK: Will i blow my amp?

Postby scypher » December 12th, 2010, 1:18 am

If im using 2x dvc subs @ 4ohm 500rms each = 1000rms , on a amp @ 4ohm load gives off 900rms, can i blow my amp if i play my subs loud?

Amp is 900RMS @ 4ohm & 1500RMS @ 2ohm

^^ NO.....google ohm's law......less ohms more current, more ohms less current, do not put the speakers in parallel, connect it in series....( red to red, black to black)

well cant really get 2 ohm load with those subs so either 1 ohm or 4 ohm....... safest hookup for system saying is the one i posted

NOTE: boss 900rms not really 900rms so will mostly be more than a 100rms lower

btw what brand subs? because if its for eg a rockford fosgate sub ... it can take way more than 500rms.

that amp really is not a perfect match, but it can work at the 4ohms option. with those subs, you can either get 1ohm by wiring all coils in parallel, 4ohms by using the series / parallel arrangement posted by gastly369, or 16ohms by wiring all coil in series..

of course, 16ohms arrangement is not a plausible setup..

if you are looking for a new amplifier, make sure it is a 1ohm stable amplifier and one that is rated at least 1000Wrms for ideal performance.. it is actually better to have a slightly more powerful amplifier then needed.. the extra headroom can help reduce clipping at high volume levels..
