Woman chopped in dispute: teen arrested

The suspect, police said, was held near his home on Thursday morning by PC Babwah and other officers from the Manzanilla Police Post. He allegedly still had the cutlass he used to attack his relative.

Duke, 53, was up to late yesterday in serious condition at the Sangre Grande Hospital, after she sustained a fractured skull and chop wounds to the head, face and neck.

The victim, a CEPEP worker of Morin Bay Road, North Manzanilla, was attacked by the relative while washing dishes on her steps. Police said the incident stemmed from a dispute Duke had with the relative over a cellphone three days before the attack.

Police said the suspect, who was sent to a correctional institution for young teenagers by a Sangre Grande magistrate, escaped from the institution on two pervious occasions.

Officers are expected to interview the suspect in the presence of his parents over the weekend before he is charged with attempted murder. PC Verson Jeanville of the Sangre Grande CID is probing the matter.
