Thats rod knock.

It happens. I'm sure you can confirm by pulling the sump and checking each rod

sometimes rod and piston knock don't do it constantly but at a given rpm or under fast acceleration/revs like what you were doin in the vid...

i had an engine idle and drive almost like normal but when you gave it some rpm/fast load it began to knock... result was a spun bearing on rod, after i decided to give it some beans and figured it out (the noise got worse)!!!

Yup, did you change the oil recently, before the knock?

^^ Off course i would - persons on this forum and on this thread have made many suggestions and comments. Some ive explored, others i havent. Persons on the sr20 forums as well are a bit baffled by this - so as soon as i discover the culprit and the causitive factor - i will communicate for the benefit of all. I have a complete engine on the ground - but it makes no sense swapping since i really wanna know what happened with the engine in the car.

Possible factors suggested:

1. Incorrect oil being used.
2. Oil blockage inside engine.
3. Bearing (s) starting to fail
4. Piston issues (wrist pin)
5. Suction tube from inside the oil sump pan broken or clogged
6. Rod issues
7. Rail issues on top of engine clogged thereby not delivering oil
8. Oil pump beginning to fail
9. Shields on engine rattling being termed as "raw engine noise"
10. Electrical issues - timing off needs correcting.

hopefully we'd see how it goes...

According to the info given, the rattle occurs under acceleration. what about pre-ignition? what heat-range spark-plugs you using?

i had a problem like this.
turned out to be the oil pan was bent.
been told the oil pickup is very close to sump pan so a
small dent will cause oil starv on idle and quick throttle.

Dave, the noise is not on rpm increase. This is whats happening - car idling and you tip the gas - RPM goes from about 750 to about 2000 and its heard. However if you gradually increase the gas - there is no sound - only on tipping the X

Update:

Progress made - none.

Apparently alot of persons are confused over this "rattle" which occurs as you tip the "X". We opened up the cover this time with a more detailed eye to observe any irregularities, wear, tear or any suspect culprit. Everything is where it is supposed to be - no nicks, nacks...used a Stethoscope - listened - noise still there...sigh....

If you have eliminated lifter noise and main bearings as the culprits, it may be a mild case of piston slap.

All who said Main Connecting Rod bearing - cudos to you.
Thats the problem.

Im changing to ACL racing one time on the connecting rod and mains one time. Changing all seals with a brand new seal kit as well.
