meebo (Thanks Duane)

i HATE FB built in chat it sucks! sometimes u get a message about 5 times.

ohh and that version of iOS was supposedly a test bed of iOS 4. like features that never made it to 4.x or are supposed to. I want that FB integration though, no more need for MyPhone+ (which i sadly purchased anyway)

Says it all right there. Well at least its better than some of the latest rumors that production would start in September for a 2012 release, although that would fit into the timeframe that some of the suppliers would put some pretty interesting components into the next iPhone. At this point if the next iPhone comes out as usual at WWDC I would be damn surprised.

So we all know that Apple's suing Samsung alleging myriad IP infringements, but you may not know what all the fuss is about. On one hand, the lawsuit is surprising because Apple gets much of the goodies it needs to build its iconic iPhones, iPads, and Macs from Sammy, and common sense dictates that you don't bite the hand that feeds you. On the other hand, however, folks in Cupertino don't take too kindly to copycats, and while it's hard to put a dollar value on the brand equity Apple currently enjoys, this lawsuit shows it's valuable enough for Apple to risk upsetting its relationship with Samsung and jeopardizing its supply chain. Having given the court docs a good read, here's our rundown of what's going on.

According to Apple's complaint, phones from Samsung (particularly the Galaxy S variety) and its Galaxy Tab are eroding the efficacy of Apple's carefully crafted brand. That brand is built, in no small part, upon the trade dress (aka the appearance and packaging) of its iDevices and its trademarked iOS icons, and Apple has spent over two billion dollars on advertising from 2007-2010 to stake out a little space in everyone's brain that associates the iPhone's looks and its progeny's derivative forms with Apple. It's worked quite well too, as Apple revealed (for the first time) in its complaint that it has sold over 60 million iPod touches, 108 million iPhones, and 19 million iPads total. Problem is, Apple views the Galaxy devices, their TouchWiz UI, and packaging -- with their Apple-esque appearance -- as illegal infringers on its hard-earned mental real estate, and it's suing Sammy to stop the squatting and pay for its IP trespassing ways.

Of course, Apple isn't just dragging Samsung to court for cashing in on the iPhone image in our hearts and minds -- Jobs and company have accused Sammy of infringing several of their patents, too. Apple asserts that TouchWiz and the Galaxy S infringe upon its iOS home screen and iPhone 3G design patents. Additionally, the complaint says Samsung has run afoul of several Apple utility patents for: the iOS instant messaging interface, the "bounce back" effect you get upon scrolling too far in a list or window, control and status widgets, UI status windows that disappear a set time after being opened, and scrolling and ellipse multi-touch gesture recognition. In light of these alleged mass IP infringements, Apple's asking the court for preliminary and permanent injunctions to take Samsung's Galaxy devices off the market, in addition to the usual request for punitives, triple damages and lost profits. We've already heard that Samsung will "respond strongly" to Apple's show of legal force, but time will tell if Sammy's strong response comes in, or out of court.

One small little addition, I'll make to this story. zcrugby & I were checking out my brother's Galaxy S & the books app looked awfully familiar...

iPhone Remote Unlocking Service For Any Carrier Discontinued

April 20th, 2011

Today we have decided discontinue the service we offered for remotely unlocking any iPhone. For the customers who already paid, and received their unlocks a few days ago, they do not need to do anything because they made the cutoff for our service. All customers who paid via PayPal or Google Checkout will be refunded. Due to the high number of orders we had, please allow some time before receiving your cancellations/refunds.

We do plan on offering iPhone unlocking services in the near future after we send out cancellations and refunds, but the service will be different, it will be for iPhones locked to certain carriers. Once we take care of the refunds, we will post more about this new service we are going to offer. Please keep checking back, and follow our twitter page here for the latest updates.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I paid through PayPal do I need to fill anything out for the refund?
A: No, all PayPal orders are being refunded automatically. Please allow a couple of days for the refund to show up in your PayPal account, or on your credit card if you used the PayPal credit card processing.

Q: I paid through Google Checkout what should I do in order to request my refund?
A: You have to visit this page in order to request the refund from Google Checkout, you can find your order number by looking at the Google Checkout Order Number by looking at your e-mail from Google Checkout when you first made your order.

Q: I already made an order and received my unlock, will I be affected?
A: No, if you already made your order, and received your unlock along with the instructions you are unaffected. This is only for people waiting on their unlocks, and new orders that were placed for this service.

Q: When can we expect this service to resume, so you can take orders again?
A: The service is suspended indefinitely. We may be able to offer iPhone unlocking services for select carriers only.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused all of our customers,
CutYourSim Team

ohh well... and it seems that officialunlocks are gone as well...

996vtwin, here's where I got mine from.

------

The iPad 2′s A5 processor not only is a speedy, dual-core chip, but also works to provide nine times the gaming performance of its predecessor, A4. So, what’s Apple to do for their best-selling gaming phone? Give it the A5 chip with remarkably better gaming performance. We have already discovered, in the iOS 4 SDK, that Apple is bringing the A5 chip to the next iPhone, and now we have heard Apple is going to push this gaming performance and speed as one of the next-generation iPhone’s major marketing points.

Apple isn’t taking the next iPhone’s A5-power lightly. They already have select developers working on versions of their iPhone applications that take full advantage of the next-generation iPhone’s speedier and much more powerful hardware. These developers, seemingly from high-level gaming outfits, have been given what is essentially an iPhone 4 but with an A5 processor instead of an A4. The device itself is virtually identical to the iPhone 4, and there is no way anyone can tell it’s not an iPhone 4 based on the phone’s exterior.

The person who chose to share this information with us calls it the ‘iPhone 4S’, though the device itself only has typical Apple prototype nomenclature. He also shared that the device spends its evenings in a safe in the company’s offices.

To be clear: these prototype iPhone 4S devices are not necessarily the next-generation iPhone. These phones are simply prototype units for developers to get ready for the new phone, rumored to be launching in September. The next-generation iPhone may end up looking just like the iPhone 4 (iPhone 3G-iPhone 3GS sort of thing) but we cannot confirm this. If the next iPhone does end up looking like the iPhone 4, we would assume that Apple would pack in more than just an A5. Probably an 8 megapixel camera, a world phone Gobi chips, and a few other things to spice up the package.

The operating system running on these phones is a version of iOS 4 that supports the next-generation hardware, and this may be why we found the iPhone 5 with an A5 chip in the iOS 4 SDK at all. If past history repeats itself, the fifth-generation iPhone will ship with Apple’s fifth-generation mobile software, in this case iOS 5. iOS 5 will be announced at Apple’s WWDC conference in early June with a rumored launch in September of this year. If anything, this news backs up claims that the fifth-generation iPhone will have an A5 and that Apple is taking gaming very seriously.

$659.00 - 16GB iPhone 4
$032.95 - TPS/TVH
$051.90 - TVP/TVQ
$743.85 - Total

*bill was in French.

If I remember correctly (I'll double check), a 32GB from Canada would have cost less than a 16GB from the UK.

Ok, I was wrong on that one, but it was definitely the cheaper route buying from the Great White North vs Merry Old England (figures not up to date)

------

Strategy Analytics has published a report stating that Apple, Inc. has overtaken Nokia as the world’s largest handset vendor. “We estimate Apple’s wholesale revenues for its iPhone handset division stood at $11.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011,” said Alex Spektor, a Senior Analyst at the analytics firm. “Apple overtook Nokia for the first time, which recorded a lower $9.4 billion of wholesale handset revenues.” The report is determining the largest vendor by revenue earned during the first three months of 2011 — as opposed to market capitalization, handsets in market, or employee numbers. “Nokia remains the world’s biggest handset maker in terms of shipments,” the brief continues. “Nokia said mobile device shipments rose 1% in the first quarter to 108.5 million, while Apple said it had sold 18.6 million iPhones over the same period.” The Boston-based firm writes that it “expects the number of phones sold with Android to overtake those with Apple’s system by late 2011″ — although this cumulative figure would not, in all likelihood, put a single Android handset manufacture ahead of the iDevice maker in terms of revenue. Strategic Analytics also hypothesizes that Nokia’s partnership with Microsoft could catapult it back to the top revenue spot in subsequent quarters.

Yes, the "no contract" phones are still locked to AT&T (in the case of the US). Also Apple are selling factory unlocked iPhone 3GSs & 4s in select countries worldwide. Off the top of my head, France, the UK, Canada & Mexico are some of them.

Parvin, Jailbreak shouldn't be a problem, but unlock may be the issue due to the baseband. The latest versions of iOS update the basebands to a version that the iPhone Dev Team & others have not yet been able to provide an unlock for through ultrasn0w.

sound boy 64, They have them for the iPhone on bmobile, so I personally don't see why it wouldn't be the case on Digicel. May just be the matter of getting the settings inputted correctly.

Scoobert Bauce, the iPhones sold through the links I provided are sold by Apple either on the site or a local Apple Store, unlocked, able to work on any GSM carrier in the world. My friend got his from the UK & Duane & I got ours from Canada.

Ok kool.

Is there anyway to reinstall an older version of iOS so that the baseband is unaffected?

No but u can flash the iPad Baseband to it. That is the only way to unlock. You were already on 4.2 anyway so you would have had to do that in any case /if/ you wanted an unlock. The last time a stock baseband could have been unlocked was 4.0.x.
You cant downgrade Baseband... yet.
You can downgrade firmware, /if/ you have SHSHs

sound boy 64, http://www.digiceltt.com/en/plans/data-plans
the BB plans in postpaid are known to work as well but dont say i said so.

I am able to get back the 'iPhone3,1_4.0_8A293_Restore' file to download.

Could i do that and would it still be unlocked and jailbroken?

^^^ correct. Personally I don't like that option. Correct me if I am wrong, but should you go to that then you wouldn't have an option to come off of it?

If 4.0 is the current firmware, then it should be an easy matter of going to jailbreakme.com to jailbreak & then installing ultrasn0w in Cydia to unlock.
