WTK: Nissan Almera CVTC E-Throttle

Hi all, I have a 2003 Nissan Almera QG16 w/ CVTC E-Throttle system. I want to change the transmission oil but I want to know if I should use the CVT transmission oil or the regular transmission oil as I'm a little bit confused about the CVTC system. Some say use CVT oil and some say don't. Any solid advice on this? Thanks!

This was dicussed in another thread on the forum about using CVT fluid in a normal Transmission.

The main true answer is to follow your car's manual specs and stick to the original recommended fluids. People does say all kinds of things and get you confused.

You don't have a CVT tranny, so there's no use of putting CVT fluid.

CVTC-(Continuous Variable Valve Timing and Control) operates just like the normal VTC found on the QG16/18 (NO E-THROTTLE) engine...but it's just Continuous helping the engine to run at it's most peak fuel efficient mode.

It is also said that CVTC offers better performance than the ordiniary VTC.

CVT- Continuous Variable Transmission is in no way connected with CVTC. :mrgreen:

always thought CVT / CVTC would of used the same oil

i don't like those CVT stuff anyway (make it worse if it is a lancer )

moti, CVTC is not the same as CVT as I've now come to realise

CVTC (Continuous Variable Valve Timing and Control) is regarding the engine system while CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) is regarding the transmission

i understand the above

however i always thought that the CVTC on those N16's were some kinda
advanced CVT transmissions

i never knew it ment Continuous Variable Valve Timing and Control. :oops:

i still don't like CVT transmissions :lol:

^^^^^dont like it cuz u dont know about it????

CVT has a bad stigma attached to it......ppl think its going to fail cuz its just a belt....blah blah blah......its way more efficient than the conventional automatic tranny, and if it has a early locking torque converter like a lot of the new nissans are getting, fuel economy and acceleration are improved.

remember CVT is banned from F1 for having an unfair advantage.

a year ago.

paid something like $9500 for a used one

i just dont like them.

The only CVT transmission I'd ever consider having is Nissan's X-troid.....CVT capability without a belt

Yuh know the correct oil for QG engines is NS1 cuz i was reading a nissan manual for them an it said NS1, an as also if you watch under the bonnet of a wingroad or almera you would see NS1 is recommended which is the same oil as a CVT.Plenty people using normal Dextron 3 a tranny gears slippin an taking long to engage.

Check the Tranny dip stick. It will state on the stick, whether NS1 or NS2 etc. to be used.

Jus spoke to a guy and he told me i cannot use NS1 in a non cvt application. Can anyone shed some light?

use any transmission oil that meets or Exceeds the nissan matic D specification.- as your manual said. i would recommend Gulf synthetic multi vehicle ATF.
it actually meets the following specifications from Nissan
"Nissan Matic-D ,Nissan Matic-J, Nissan Matic K

"APPLICATIONS:GULF PRIDE®SYNTHETIC ATF is suitable for use where the following
specifications are required:
•Allison
•MERCON
•ATF +4
•MERCON V
•GM DEXRONIII (including II)
• Toyota T-III and Toyota T-IV
•Honda
•Others
•JASO 1A"

not a problem, BTW i also own a QG engine QG18DE and i'm using the gulf synthetic multi vehicle in my car. do not do the drain and refill procedure instead look into a complete fluid exchange.

the oil comes in 1 liter bottles -no quarts- unsure if it comes in gallons.
my transmission took 10 liters to properly exchange the old fluid.

cater for like 12 liters or so if doing the complete fluid exchange.

3 questions:

I saw "cruise" and "set" on the instrument panel. Does that work?

Can you tell me what's that feature on the wiper lever? See pic. Thanks.

I see the fog lights harness there by d mounting area, but no relay in relay box. Any advice on wiring with the stock wires?

I using Dextron III in my At - QG15, B15, e throttle- as was recommended by the Motorist, both at Automotive Components in Arima and Arouca.
