ohh +1 for the captivate. beside the screen resolution (yea iphone 4 spoiled my eyes) the stock rom is close to iPhone "fluid" movement in the interface. You can nab a used one for ~300usd on ebay.

BTW, once you use any REAL smartphone OS for a day you will throw away your BB. Unless you are using the Exchange services. Best person for advice is tr1ad though. I think he uses his BB how it should be  not just BBM and i think android is better equipped to use such services from the BB. iOS only recently got Google events invitation to calendar feature etc.

well i mainly use BBM, Email, Calls, MSN and other apps (but these are available on android)
my only gripe may be the decreased battery life going from a bold to a 4" super amoled screen.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and Keyboard Folio case hands-on (video)

Image

True to rumors, the ThinkPad Tablet (yeah, that's seriously the whole name) will indeed be shipping with a full-size USB port and an optional dedicated folio / case, and oddly enough, it's that very peripheral that could set this unit apart from the masses. While it's obviously no big chore to find a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard folio for the iPad, you probably won't find a perfectly matching case with a tried-and-true Lenovo keyboard and a newfangled optical trackpad unless you're ponying up for this guy. Internally, we're looking at the same 1GHz Tegra 2 silicon as found in the more consumery IdeaPad K1, a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) IPS display, a battery good for up to 8.7 hours of use, 1GB of RAM, 16/32/64GB of storage, 3-in-1 card reader, A-GPS, an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, front (2MP) / rear (5MP) cameras, a mini HDMI port (1080p capable!) and Lenovo's own app launcher / app market.

The full-size USB port also puts it squarely in Eee Transformer territory, with the Keyboard Folio shown above making perfect use of it. In practice, the accessory worked beautifully, and while the $99 price tag may seem a bit steep, it's not exactly cheap to go out and get a third-party case, keyboard and mouse. The company's demanding $499 (and up) for it's Android 3.1-based biz slate, with initial shipments starting today. Peek the hands-on video just after the break!

Using data to protect people from malware

The Internet brings remarkable benefits to society. Unfortunately, some people use it for harm and their own gain at the expense of others. We believe in the power of the web and information, and we work every day to detect potential abuse of our services and ward off attacks.

As we work to protect our users and their information, we sometimes discover unusual patterns of activity. Recently, we found some unusual search traffic while performing routine maintenance on one of our data centers. After collaborating with security engineers at several companies that were sending this modified traffic, we determined that the computers exhibiting this behavior were infected with a particular strain of malicious software, or “malware.” As a result of this discovery, today some people will see a prominent notification at the top of their Google web search results:

Image

This particular malware causes infected computers to send traffic to Google through a small number of intermediary servers called “proxies.” We hope that by taking steps to notify users whose traffic is coming through these proxies, we can help them update their antivirus software and remove the infections.

We hope to use the knowledge we’ve gathered to assist as many people as possible. In case our notice doesn’t reach everyone directly, you can run a system scan on your computer yourself by following the steps in our Help Center article.

So this means no more kies updates for you again? I flashed an 'unofficial official' 2.3.4 on my SGS also, but only as a last resort to fix a camera problem. I prefer kies updates over these official leaks since those leaks tend to be somewhat buggy.

not to mention the Huddle feature in the G+ app also allows for group chats similar to what bbm and whatsapp does.

G+ real bad yes. this is like facebook/twitter/blogging/photo sharing and all other aspects of social media bundled in one...
