- pwn the DFU
- Load up TinyUmbrella 5.00.09 and tick everything in advanced options.

One of BGR's high-level AT&T sources just informed us that an AT&T Vice President has confirmed to several employees that the iPhone 5 is slated to launch in early October. Additionally, the VP communicated the following to a group of managers: “Expect things to get really, really busy in the next 35-50 days, so prepare your teams accordingly.” Apple is widely expected to announce the iPhone 5 in a late September event with a release set for early October.

So much for the rumored 7th September launch. :(

Ohh and apple may have started blocking downgrades. So make sure you use an old itunes (earlier than 10.4)

Also, its good to wait til the rush dies down. See previous page about the callerid

How come ulyuh having issues with the caller ID ?

Is it because of the v4.3.3?

Mine works great with the CallerID Format Fix

Even using iAnnounce which works good as well.

i coulda swear you got a 4 too

CallerID and format fix pkg works fine on PRO Gevey's but on Ultra's the furious mod package interferes with a file that CallerID and format fix tweaks and causes conflicts. My post addresses that latter part :)

Its no surprise that Apple is setting the standards when it comes to design and innovation of smartphones and tablets, whilst rivals continue to imitate!

Image

Ok, so it’s not exactly revelation, and Apple is fully aware that rivals are out to mimic its immensely-popular product range. But a little comparison thrown up by Daring Fireball does give an amusing insight to the blatantness of the trend.

Here is what a concept Android device from the big G looked like before the iPhone came into existence:

Image

As you can see, it bears striking similarities to the RIM devices which at the time dominated the market. With Blackberry fast losing relevance, Apple is now setting the pace, and influencing designs. Look at the modern-day devices running Android software, and you can see the pattern emerging. Take the HTC Incredible for instance:

Image

Incredible is one word to describe the striking similarities between this device and Apple’s current flagship smartphone. While the Apple juggernaut is hard to stop just now, it makes sense to try and match what’s hot on the market.

The Cupertino company only delved into the tablet market last year, but that hasn’t stopped the innovation brought with it’s iPad devices from rubbing off on the releases of rivals. Variations of tablet devices have been around for years, and there has always been a relatively decent range available allowing music, movie playback, storage and internet browsing for that niche between phone and computer.

Apple didn’t bring anything fundamentally new when iPad device was launched, and yet the reception was unprecedented. The marketing and design are the Cupertino’s two main assets, and whether you love or hate seeing Jobs talking about products as if they bring features never before seen, you cannot deny that Apple has a knack for marketing and talking-up products like no other company in the world – to the point whereby many believe some of the “changing everything, again” claims.

To put things further into perspective, take a look at the image below. It depicts those old tablet devices which some may not even remember due to the relatively small tablet market before the iPad turned it on its head. It also shows a selection of the current tablets from other manufacturers on the market running Google’s Android OS.

Image

For the time being, it seems to be Apple’s game to lose. The general buzz around new product release dates is far greater than when other companies announce new products, and it doesn’t look like recessing any time soon.

Managed to get 4.3.3 installed and running on a 3GS. Made a custom rom with Sn0wbreeze as other custom cooked roms didn't seem to work :S

Did not have blobs saved for 4.3.3 as it was on 4.2.1, so I don't understand why TU had to be running even for it to take the custom rom while being in pwned DFU mode.

Got errors from 1600, 1604, 37 and some other one I can't remember trying to troubleshoot the install.

BB is 05.15.04 so now I will have to flash it with the iPad BB.

Will give it a run and see how well the battery life is.

It may not come as a massive surprise that Apple’s iPhone, despite the excessive price-tag, is the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. market right now.

What is interesting, though, is that it is followed by its predecessor – the iPhone 3GS, which despite being over two years old, continues to outsell Android-based devices from likes of Samsung and HTC. Here we list the top 5 selling devices in the second quarter:

    1. Apple iPhone 4
    2. Apple iPhone 3GS
    3. HTC EVO 4G
    4. HTC Inspire 4G
    5. Samsung INTENSITYII

Despite iPhone 4 leading the pack from older brother 3GS, the report by research company NPD did show that Android OS covers the lion’s share of the market with 52% of new sales during Q2 of this year. iOS claimed a solid 29% share, while RIM’s BlackBerry device/OS only managed to muster 11% of the market – further evidence that the once market-leading range is continuing its rapid downward plummet towards the tech scrapheap. BlackBerry Messenger was a huge reason why RIM’s devices were so popular a couple of years ago, but the advances made on other platforms, and the ease in which one can freely communicate through WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger apps has left the BlackBerry exposed – with not a lot else left to reel in customers.

Despite the lack of a new iPhone which is usually launched at the end of Q2, Apple has still managed to keep consumers interested with the introduction of the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 on Verizon which launched in February. The tediously elongated release of the white iPhone 4 in April kept the Cupertino in the headlines, but by that time many had either decided to wait for the next device, bought a conversion kit, or actually realized that in reality, the white iPhone doesn’t look that nice.

Although we now have the much-improved iPhone 4 and are looking ahead to the fifth installment, it is important to pay homage to a smartphone which has exceeded anybody’s expectations in terms of sales and longevity.

------

The release of new MacBook Airs and the Mac OS X Lion operating system last month helped spur double-digit growth for Apple, which is now estimated to sell a record 4.5 million systems during the ongoing September quarter.

Preliminary figures for the PC sales released by market research firm NPD on Monday indicate that sales of Macs in the United States rose 26% year-over-year in July, which puts the Mac maker on a pace to meet consensus estimates of 4.5 million total sales for the three-month period ending September.

Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray, attributed the rise to new Mac products but warned that it will be more challenging for Apple to maintain such growth throughout the quarter, as the company saw 29% and 20% respective growth rates during August and September of 2010, compared to July's 14%.

"We believe Mac sales benefited from the 7/20 launch of OS X Lion along with refreshed MacBook Airs and Mac minis," he said. "But these tailwinds will fade throughout the September quarter and year-over-year compares get slightly tougher in the last two months of the quarter."

Performing his own extrapolation and analysis of the NPD data, Munster estimates that Apple is pacing to sell 4.4 million to 4.6 million Macs during the September quarter -- both of which would represent a quarterly best.

Meanwhile, Munster noted that sales of iPods during the month of July fell just 15%, which was better than the 24% he had been modeling. He said the figures suggest Apple's quarterly iPod sales will fall to just 7.2 to 7.7 million for the quarter.

Really Sony?

------

McAfee says that the Android OS is having some issues with malware lately -- according to a new study from the anti-malware company, Android malware has grown by 76% over the past few months, sending the number of troublesome scripts out there to over 40. Some of the malware appears to be legitimate apps, and other issues come from code that sends unwanted text messages or performs other scammy behavior.

Meanwhile, Apple is doing great with iOS -- McAfee has recorded zero legitimate threats to a stock iPhone, with the only attacks on the hardware coming to four different jailbroken devices. It appears Apple's "walled garden" approach, while limiting to some developers and customers, has at least made good use of those walls in keeping malware away.

The other mobile OS with a spotless score? webOS, which of course is probably that way simply because it's just not used that much.

------

Also a side question to anyone who has access to or used both a MacBook Pro (aluminum) & MacBook (white). Is the wifi reception better in the MacBook than the Pro?

BREAKING NEWS

Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO.

Image

This is of course a sad day and one that we’ve had in the back of our minds for years now. Jobs’ third medical leave…developing.

From the newswires….

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.

“Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple’s Board. “Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration.”

“The Board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO,” added Levinson. “Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does.”

Jobs submitted his resignation to the Board today and strongly recommended that the Board implement its succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO.

As COO, Cook was previously responsible for all of the company’s worldwide sales and operations, including end-to-end management of Apple’s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries. He also headed Apple’s Macintosh division and played a key role in the continued development of strategic reseller and supplier relationships, ensuring flexibility in response to an increasingly demanding marketplace.

Steve Jobs wrote:I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

:(

Expect this to pull a DOW tomorrow...
