cacasplat3 wrote:the truth is, riding on the road is overrated.......trackdays is where its at......much much safer, limits are reached and extended easily and safely..........

i do not agree that a 600 sport is a good point to start.......IMO if you are not short(5'8" and up), a supermoto will be a better starter.......supermoto is pretty much the same as a dirt bike except you have the grip and braking capability of a sportbike.....they are usually raced at most kart and some full sized tracks..........look up the Suzuki DRZ400SM and Yamaha WR250X.....they are by far the most reliable and popular supermotos.....i know of quite a few guys in canada who ride SM.....they are not very fast, but they offer something that sportbkes usually don't......agility.......and you need that.

i'm not saying that 600's are crap, but these days sportbikes are being more and more high speed and track oriented rather than street, and that makes them a bit much to handle........naked bikes in the 600 range like the ducati monster 696, yamaha FZ6 and suzuki sv650 are designed for beginners and novice riders but still offer a good punch..........

i've had my bike license since 2008 and since then, i've only ridden on the road a handful of times........its just too dangerous to take the risk......well here at least.........some countries are more bike friendly than others, but if your ego is in control of your right hand, well, it doesn't matter how bike friendly the traffic is.......

i posted in the other thread, that i have absolutely no interest in buying a sportbike.........track and adventure-offroad riding offers 10X the enjoyment......

my $0.02 8-)

hey caca what you think about the zuki vstrom dl1000? you and I have similar tastes in bikes. A nice big machine for a tall man like me.

I'm very carefull when I ride and I know my limits so I don't ride to exceed these limits. I observe my environment and if things are getting too much for me I pull over and relax or let the situation clear up. You can't be gung ho all the time on a bike, at some point you'll get in trouble.

Enjoy your bike and enjoy riding. Be safe out there.

You sound kida like me there...

Thanks and continue to enjoy yours as well...

R. Mutt wrote:So first off - Congrats Bacon! She looks sexy :) How difficult was the bike test and how did you go about it in terms of preparation?

I live on the edge of Yaletown and walk to and from work (12 minutes walk). Have no need for a bike, but man I want one to ride on the weekends with all the great scenery around BC. With a move to a new apt soon I'll be able to save a good chunk of money and I've been thinking about using that toward a 600.

Too bad it feels like fall already...just now it'll be raincouver again. Still gives me time to save toward the bike.

Thanks Mutt....Yeah the weather done start up already....

Getting the DL (to ride by yourself is easy)
Fisrt the computer test 40 questions,32 to pass $15 sockeye!!!!

Then most people do the course $800 and after you do that they do the skills test and voilla you can ride by yourself....Anybody who does the course swears by it,but I did not do the course....

If you do not do the course you have to do a free 15 mins skill test in a car park, once you pass that....same thing you can ride by yourself....just no night riding and no passengers....sun setting after 9.00 anyway so who cares....

So it comes as if you have a full dl kinda after that point...

Then you just hadda do the roadtest anytime yuh ready in the next year...(pretty much the same car road test)
