Kindle - Sideload eBooks

As some of you might have noticed, the Amazon Kindle App is quite good.

Unfortunately you have to pay for ebooks which are usually available for free on the Internet (e.g.: Programming Windows Phone 7, sold for 22.53$ , available for free on: http://www.charlespetzold.com/phone/).

So I tried to convert it to the used prc format, et voilà it's working.

So here's what you have to do:

Download Mobile Creator 4.2 from here...

http://www.mobipocket.com/en/downloadso ... reator.asp

When the conversion is done, apply the registry hack, so that your phone will show up in Windows Explorer...

http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/11/ ... usb-drive/

Remember to close Zune. Otherwise it won't work.

Copy the newly created *.prc file to your phone. If not already done, install TouchXplorer and go to My Documents\Zune\Content\0400\03 and cut the newly created file (It will be renamed to*.z)

Paste it to Applications\Data\48195FB4-EE0E-9264...\Data\IsolatedStore\kindle

Now rename the file so you will remember the it (e.g. programming.prc).

Start up Kindle and the newly added book should be available.

HD7 WP7 User here... Almost went Android, couldn't take the lag. Now I'm smooth as ice...blazing navigation speed... Not one crash. I've had the phone since the 5th of this month. Crapping all over my droid friends who constantly have to run app killers or side load roms just for the thing to run optimum. MS really came hard this time. Love the clean layout. The animations are tastefully done...did I mention the speed? Love it...

FAST is the only word that comes to mind. He Android guys in the other thread tryinto convince me Android doesn't lag. Clearly they're lost. My iPhone 4 friend was blown away night before last. Zero issues. No crashes. Not a single slow down.

Well now

It's happened. Former Microsoft exec and current Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has married his future and his past in the holy matrimony of a "strategic alliance." Windows Phone is becoming Nokia's "principal smartphone strategy"...

Two quick questions for those who own a Windows Phone 7 device:

1) T&T users, could you browse and download apps/games from the marketplace hub on the phone itself? (without having to connect to a PC)

2) How is the support for DivX/Xvid? Anyone ever tried playing any of these file types?

8-) Just got all my updates folks.

Copy & Paste.
Better Marketplace search.
Even faster than before(I didn't even think that was possible)
Much better battery life/management.

So glad I decided to give WP7 a shot. Well worth it... still buttery smooth as day one 8-)
Phone has never crashed or slowed down, regardless of how many things I've loaded on...apps/music/videos...nothing slows it down.

I remember the days of Symbian, expecting a crash everynow and then...not to mention Andriod users who pretend not to have lag issues  Symbian days are behind me, and until Google implements some proper quality control, no Android for me. If the green-childish looking themes weren't enough already, the constant lag and stuttering would be enough.

Just an update for you guys...haven't had a single crash/reboot since owning this phone. It's THAT stable.

No Android or BB guy could ever say the same. Constant freezes, and reboots are a norm for them. Sad

BOOM

I got it :D

Faster, more responsive than before(I dunno how that is even possible, as it's faster than iOS5) much more stable than Android (well everything is to be honest, they live in a world of LAG) and let's not even talk about the soon to be dead RIM BB

I have full access to everything BTW...

I have the HTC HD7 incase anyone was wondering.

Cool good to hear. I've been doing some research into WP7. Trying to decide between that and android and it's looking like a better option the more research I do. When Nokia announces their phones I'll decide. There's a spy shot of one of the rumored nokia WP7 phone that's looking really sexy :)

One thing i've noticed though WP7 needs more serious games, too many puzzles etc.

With Microsoft upping the minimum specs... More hardcore games shall be coming in the near future. I always laugh at these android ppl tho... The GSIII is rumored to be sporting a 1.8 DUAL CORE WITH A COUPLED GRAPHICS CHIP... and it'll still lag like a biotch. The manufacturers are just so concerned with pelting out what ever shiny stuff they can and not focusing on the whole picture. Making the product neat and efficient. One try at the gallery app with same sized pics vs a GALAXY S II & I'll crush it hands down. No lag, no stutter.

I really love WP7 and it just got web better with Mango. Waiting to see what Nokia is coming with.

Why are you comparing the HD7, which was released in Oct 2010, to the Galaxy SII which was relased in April 2011?

i seriously doubt the hd7 is 'laggy' as he claims or that wp7 is as smooth as described

As I suspected such a comparsion of the HD7 against the Galaxy S2 would be bad for wp7 supporters. The HD7 here may not be using mango, didn't manage to see the date these reviews were done, but a comparison is a comparison. This is certainly more "official" than what RASC is suggesting.

Samsung galaxy S2 vs HTC HD7: http://geekaphone.com/compare/Samsung-G ... vs-HTC-HD7

Unfortunately the HD7 also loses against the Galaxy S: http://geekaphone.com/compare/Samsung-G ... vs-HTC-HD7

Sorry guys :) I'm still very interested in WP7 though

Spec wise windows phone will not beat a s2 which has way more umph but fluidity of os as well as social integration no android device can compare especially out of box, but I have used both and currently using a hd7 as my every day driver. So my opinion is based on personal experience with both.....my $0.02

Sad to see this thread so dead. I've been reading up on the Windows Phone 7.5 OS and after having a hands-on look with my friend's Dell Venue Pro I can safely say I think Windows Phone is for me. I find it to be a much more elegant and responsive OS given the kind of hardware it runs on (the Dell Venue Pro features a 1 GHz single core processor which by current standard is really lacking)

This brings me to my question. I am seriously considering getting one of three Windows Phones, the HTC Radar, the Lumia 800 or the Lumia 900 (to be released in March this year). Does anyone on the forum own either of these phones? Particularly the Lumia 800 as I find it to be quite a stylish and its specs are the best of the current generation Windows Phones.
