Help! Clearing item being held by customs

Postby zedx20 » January 14th, 2012, 4:46 pm

Here is the problem. I am an airgun enthusiast so when i saw a cool laser scope on amazon i didnt hesitate to buy it and send to my skybox. However the day i was expecting it to be delived home from the skybox people they called and said customs were holding it. How can i get it? What is the procedure to get it cleared. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Go to Customs House with you Firearm Licence and/or your Air Gun Permit to have the item cleared.. Simply explainn what the scope is for and the most they may do is charge u an extra duty as these items are considered weapons...Items like these carryu a special duty..

I know the item is being held at serviair bond in piarco. Do i need to go to abercromby street or can it be cleared at the servisair bond. I have the permit for my airifle. Tommorow I will carry it to servisair and see if that would work. William18 can you ask your friends what i should do. thanks.

i had gone yesterday but they said it was sent to pos.also the guy said that the permt is on my dad's name and they said because it was imported in my name he would need to draft a letter stating i ordered it for him. When i called pos they said i needed a permit to import the laser scope. The guy said i would need to go to police headquarters to find out how to get a permit to import it. Is that really necessary or can the airgun permit alone be sufficient?

You need a permit from the police to import and keep, any part of a 'firearm' is considered as a firearm by law, even accessories.

Count your loss, apply for the permit first and when granted then order your scope, having to pay storage fees for this one won't make sense due to the delay in obtaining the permit.

before buying items and importing, ur customs brokeage or skybox was supposed to inform you that certain items are NOT TO BE SHIPPED in any form or manner into the country and WILL BE SEIZED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE.

count urself lucky if they dont come by ur door with police....cause u saying 'i have a license" not going to justify ur ignorance of breaking customs laws.

Yeh my skybox sucks. I even had to pay them for the item because they brought it down. And you know they sent an email b4 saying all documents to clear customs was present. and when it came down it get seized. if they had told me that it was a problem i would have let my cousin in the states pick it up from them. The police have to be daft if they come by my door asking because they should realize what happened from the amount of customs people and police i've spoken to.lol. You can bring down these items with the correct permit. And im going to try to acquire one.
