anyway of tracking a stolen bb without recovery software?

Postby sentraman » January 21st, 2012, 6:15 pm

Is there anyway to get the location on a stolen blackberry using only the pin? The sim card was changed but of course the person has the same pin and access to all the people on bb messenger.

Only if you have a friend in TSTT that has the right access.....

All phones and sim card have their own/unique id numbers. so even if a different sim is used in your phone it can still be traced without tracking software..

Question is if the "cost" and manpower to track it is worth recovering the phone..Both TSTT and Digicell do this with phones on a limited and selective basis, it is also done to recover stolen laptops which connect to the internet..

yuh know if they would only blacklist IMEIs of stolen phones it would render it useless even if they change SIM card- doh know why nobody thought of this yet

Well TSTT and Digicell seems to not see "The Profit" in doing this.. I have had alot of insider reviews on security issues such as these but is all about "costs" at the end of the day.. But strange this is that not long ago a Minister's cell phone and laptop were taken in a robberyand both were "quickly" rcovered using the said process..

This does exist in other jurisdictions but only serves to refuse the handset access to a network. On the other hand the IMEI can also be swapped thereby making this database somewhat redundant.

The IMEI can be searched on the networks for the new SIM and then the number can be traced.

Placing this issue at the sole responsibility of bMobile or Digicel is unfair because the police and MNS have to drive this as a stolen handset is a criminal act. If they are not interested then what use is it for the mobile operators to invest the time, money and effort into this. And for the record, it takes a lot of computing resources to complete the process outlined above.

Best way would be to add the person to BBM, And see where it goes from there.

In that case the service provider should be sending a note to RIM to wipe the software via the IMEI, this is normal practice.

As for the second part well yuh on yuh own dey.
