also, what's the sound system in this car and how does it perform with road noise, etc? usb input? bluetooth? steering controls?
if possible can you post some pics of the interior? thanks
Will start off copying and pasting from the spec sheet for a fully loaded $240,000.00 Jetta. Note that the Jetta for $230,000.00 has 16 inch wheels and no sunroof. Everything else is the same.
1400 CC Twincharged engine - 160 hp (118Kw), 240 NM Torque from 1500 to 4500 rpm
Electronic stabilization program (ESP) and ABS
7 speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox DQ 200 - basically a fancy manual tranny that drives like an automatic. It has a tipronic mode and shifts faster than a manual.
Space-saving spare wheel
Disc brakes front and rear wheels
Glove compartment cooling system
Axial and vertical adjustable steering column
Leather multi-function steering wheel
Fresh air intake system with activated charcoal canister
Child seat anchor for child seat system ISOFIX
Electric slide/tilt sunroof with sun screen/sunblind
Manually adjustable lumbar support in front seats
Manual height adjustment for front seats
Height-adjustable headrests for front seats
3-point seat belts with tensioner and height adjustment, front
Three rear headrests
Door pockets with insert mats
Door and side trim panel in foam film and woven fabric
Windshield in heat-insulating glass
Side and rear windows in heat-insulating glass
Power windows with comfort operation andcircuit breaker
Left and right vanity mirror, illuminated
Driver's and front passenger air bag with front passenger air bag deactivation
Side air bag front with curtain air bag
Lockable glove compartment door, with light
Without tire pressure warning light
Park distance control, front and rear
Radio "RCD510 World Variant" - touchscreen controlled display. Connects to bluetooth devices (iphone, Ipad, android phones and tablets, bb) and plays music stored on said devices. It also has a 6 cd changer, a slot for SD cards and an "ipod cable" in the glovebox to attach iphones or ipods. It displays who is calling you etc. Simple to use but has many different features. Something you don't appreciate till you use it.
"diversity" window antenna - basically no antenna pole. Antenna built into rear windscreen
8 speakers - Sufficient for most people. Bass isn't the greatest as there is no subwoofer. The car increases the volume as the speed of the vehicle increases to counter road noise. Depending on how much bass you have chosen this can distort sounds at higher speeds. Say above 130 kph. Basically with these speakers you won't win a car show but they are adequate for the average user. If you are an audiophile I would suggest you walk with CDs to the dealer and listen for yourself as I am not an expert in this area.
Reading light front
Cruise control system (CCS) electronic
Rear fog light for driving on the left
Without washer fluid level indicator
Integrated front fog light
Without headlight washer system
Seat belt reminder, electric contact in buckle - this can be disabled with a program called VCDS or at the dealer if you wish.
Multi-function display with control - see video
Brake pad wear indicator
Special requirements for the Caribbean (Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic) - this is as listed directly from VW without dealer intervention so no dealer propoganda. i.e. the car is specifically designed for moderate hot countries with a certain humidity. Hopefully this means that the headliner issues in previous VWs will not rear its head again.
Alloy wheels 7J x 17 Queensland - 15 spoke wheels
Tires 225/45 R17 91W - mine came with Bridgestone Potenza RE050. The brand of tire may vary as VW uses a pool of brands.
Battery 280 A (60 Ah)
Climatronic air conditioning system with automatic air recirculation mode activation via air quality sensor
Without drawers under front seats
Hill hold control - if you mash brakes and come to a complete stop on an incline the brakes will be held for a couple seconds after foot is off the brake pedal to prevent vehicle from rolling forward or backward.
Anti-theft alarm system "Plus" incl. single door opening
Internal motion detectors, anti tow alarm.
Built in handsfree, voice control- voice control lets you say "Call *person's name*" and it will call that person for you via your bluetooth connected phone. The feature is nice WHEN it works. It is tripped up by short names. So instead of saying "Call Julia" you may have to say "Call Julia Watford" so the system understands correctly. If one is parked you can use the controls on the steering wheel to thumb through the phone's phonebook via the multifunction display and click dial but on the highway the voice dialing comes in handy.
One touch power windows with pinch protection - if the window encounters an obstruction while closing it will go back down to prevent possible damage or injury.
Central locking
Stock steering wheel
Interior shots. Excuse the untidiness :
driver side door
Passenger can adjust his/her own temp separate from driver - 2zone Climatronic
Chilled, lockable glove box with "ipod cable" inside and switch for front passenger airbag deactivation. Micro-can cable not included.
As you can see I chose cloth interior but I believe one can choose leather for an extra $10k approx if you are willing to wait.
rear passenger door with storage for larger bottles or other items.
air vents in centre console for rear passengers.
Light switch for foglight, parklight and main head lamp. Switch for main head lamp height adjustment.
front reading lamps, sunroof control knob.
Storage pocket for sunglasses. Three black circles are internal motion detectors.
Multifunction display (MFD)
Optical Parking System (Park Distance Control):
Parked pretty close to an object infront so it shows this on the Radio screen:
Put a brick behind the car:
and magically the car knows and shows this on the radio display in the approx location with respect to the car.
Trunk and backseats:
Sitting in rear passenger seat with driver seat pushed all the way back.
My knees do not touch the driver's seat and I am 6 ft 1inches in height. Driver seat pushed back just for this pic.
bag hook in trunk
60/40 split rear seats. Trunk is enormous by the way. Can easily store 2 to 3 bodies but this is debatable.
wow!! Thanks a million man! this is exactly the type of info i was looking for.
i must say.. im very impressed with the features and specs at this price point! thanks for the in depth photos, videos and sensor demos! more and more i feel this may be my next car... my only concerns are BA's service (we had some serious mismanagement issues with a Touareg) and I know people who had problems with their service visits
The car sells itself pretty much. The main issue is after sales support and service. This is my first purchase from that dealer so I can't say how good or bad they are. I have heard some odd stories from others. Currently waiting to see how they deal with a friend's transmission issue.
how fast would you say the acceleration is on this car? i know the general impression is that its quite good... did u happen to test drive the new passat? if so, how did it compare?
hows the fuel consumption with this engine with faster/highway driving so far?
The car is one of the faster cars in its price bracket if not the fastest. According to VW it has the same 0-60 times as the 1.8T Passat due to similar torque and hp outputs. I did not drive a Passat to verify.
VW claims 8.3 seconds 0-60. I have not timed this myself. The car to me feels fast. All I have driven before were normally aspirated engines from 1.3 up to 2.5 litres. I would say this car will beat most 2.0 to 2.5 litre normally aspirated engine cars in 0-60 mph. It will hang with 2.0T SUVs or heavier vehicles. Friends who have taken spins in the car with me say it is faster than they are accustomed to and are surprised this is the only engine that VW offers now as opposed to a 1.6 NA as well. If you into testing people at lights n thing I would say you really only need to fear Subaru Legacy 2.0T, STI Imprezas, EVOs, and big engined euros, audi 2.0T A4 with S-tronic and I think the new 3 series cause I heard they all come standard with turbos now. If you into taking your car to motorsport events like Drag and Wind there is a VW Jetta with the same drivetrain that competes. you could talk to the driver as he would be able to give you a better, more scientific answer than I would. Take a test drive and report back nah. I own the car so I lil biased.
Fuel consumption: Spirited driving surprisingly does not drain the tank that quickly. I currently get about 500 km per 50 litres of premium gas. This is up from 400 km per 50 litres so my engine is still in the break in phase. In theory I can get about 900+ km per tank (55 litres) according to VW but I doubt I will ever see that. I plan to keep posting fuel consumption figures as my mileage goes up. It should be noted that most of my driving is short distances to work i.e. city miles (less than 20 km) with the occasional highway runs on weekends. The car much prefers highway driving in terms of fuel consumption if driven at moderate speeds: 80 kph to 130kph with smooth overtaking. Can get consumption down to 7 litres per 100 km (theoretically would give 785 km per tank)
Dealer first said his mechatronic needed replacing under warranty. Now they say it is good but have to contact Germany to figure out some problem seeing that a new mechatronic unit didn't fix the issue.
No headlight issue to me. They wanted xenon headlights that were an option on previous jettas.
You don't see many jettas on the road simply because of the worldwide demand for them. Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean for that matter get limited batches at a time.
America gets most followed by Europe and Australia pretty much.
this is exactly the type of issue we had with the touareg, except it was no longer under warranty, so every time they "figured" out what was wrong, a whole lotta $$$ was going into parts for them to change. that whole saga took over 2 months for germany to solve while the vehicle was parked in morvant. in the mean time they kept finding other "issues" that required brand new parts. this is where my main concerns with BA started
do you mean its not changing gears in drive?A simple software upgrade is the usual fix from what I have read in other forums...car after 2010/11 shouldn't have this issue though. What year is his model?
If you going to buy one try to get one that is on the lot. Ordering one means things are out of yours and the dealer's hands as manufacturers do as they please with respect to build dates when demand is high.
Nes the software updates are for other issues not for this particular one. They usually govern comfort settings while driving such as say juddering or rattling noises at slow speeds. This issue of no gear selection is usually a physical problem such as a temp sensor going bad and the gearbox going into a sort of safe mode.
Friend's car made in may 2010. Bought in January 2011. Mk5 1.4 tsi jetta with dq200 7 speed dsg. Depending on how his issues go I'm trying to get an extended warranty on the transmission alone.
If his car was made 2010,it can possibly be 2009 June and afterwards,so yeah I think his car maybe one of those...
I think the temp sensor failure gives difference symptoms according to this website below....VW have purportedly revamped their transmission warranty to 10yrs or 100k miles...see the attached letter from VW in the same link below.

I've seen this for the US but they don't get the same transmission. Theirs is a 6 speed wet clutch DSG due to the higher levels of torque associated with the turbo diesels they offer in that market. Different hardware and software. Thanks for the heads up. I hope it's something as simple as a temperature sensor in my friend's case and not an inherent flaw in the mechatronic unit.
As usual will keep yall posted with updates with his experience with the dealer.
Did you experience any major issues with the car as yet. I'm looking at this and the car is really nice, however being a former Bora owner I am concerned about reliability issues.

Thank
what kind of issues did you have with your car? how was your experience with the dealer.
Allergic2BunnyEars: I know they say this current Jetta is cheaper to produce than previous models so that it could compete with other cars on the market etc, but does it show in the build quality? Esp with the interior? I know time will tell how it holds out, but how does it fee?
The reviews that state this upfront are usually with respect to the US jetta. THAT one really got decontented to drop the price to compete with civics and corollas in the us. Dashboard is made of a hard material(not like it matters), some trims come with drum brakes at the back, 2.0 116hp engine, no fogs depending on trim, no touchscreen radio depending on trim and a whole lot of other small changes to bring down the price.
The jetta we get here while not as badly decontented as the one for the US does have a few small interior changes compared to the previous mk5. My friend says his doors have foam padding to give it a softer feel....uh that's it lol. Feature wise you get more with the current jetta which compensates sufficiently for the lack of a few soft touch areas in the car.
I guess one other small issue is rattles. There are two rattles that I hear at times. One was when I took very slow corners. It was the rubbers for the doors rubbing against the frame of the car. Dealer lubricated them and the problem stopped. Will have to lubricate myself every 3 months or so. 2nd minor rattle is from the driver side b pillar when certain songs with plenty bass play. it is intermittent so not really contemplating pulling b pillar trim apart or anything at this point plus it is subtle.
it'd be nice if there was an option for a more premium sound system. although compared to my current 2004 corolla, im sure the jetta has better sound insulation so the audio sounds better. but after getting used to a certain frequency range with my (fairly decent) system [with a subwoofer], i'm not sure how any stock system will really compare.
Glad to have found this thread. I'm almost a hair away from ordering as well but still trying to do as much research as possible. I'm getting the leather and sunroof package and this will be my first euro car. I look forward to more reviews from allergic.
Rainman if you ordering from the manufacturer don't sell your vehicle before u get the jetta eh. That delivery date can move and BA doesn't go out of their way if the date slips.
What's the price for leather now? What color leather you going with? I saw a butter cream leather interior and it was very impressive.
