In the hunt for some rear tyres for my SGV and there is such limited choices for 225 70 16.
I’m getting so far the following

Tyre Clinic - Goodyear Integrity - $1000
Mileage Mack - Kumho KR21 - $719
Kelly - Roadstone - $650

I’m leaning to the Kumho....

bgh, call Ester at Automotive Components Ltd. 642-3484.

Ask her for the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred 225/70R16.

I have these (in 235/65R17). Perfect Highway All-Season. Excellent Wet/Dry Traction.

Any issues getting them let me know. See below...............

Got my new boots yesterday form ACL - Goodyear Fortera Comfortred 235/70r16 for 4K for the set.
They look like a cross between the Fortera Tripletred and the Fortera SlientArmor.

Thanks to norstar2k for his advice and hookup... as a English colleague of mine will normally say “you’re a gentleman and a scholar”.

Update: For those of you with the SGV with 16" Rims that carry the 225/70R16, that size is difficult to get. We has to settle for the Hankook Dynaopro AS RH03 for $750 each at Wheel's Plus for wifey's SGV.

I couldn't get the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred, Goodyear Fortera ComfortTred or Kumho Ecsta STX KL12.

year plus :bump:

ok guys, i'm getting ready to change tires soon, and hope someone can help guide me with my decision based on experience, and what's currently available on the market:)
What I have: the stock tires i have are bridgeston duellers 225/65R/17.
What I'd like: I think I'd like to go with a nice set of all terrains, and I'd like to try and maintain the stock dimensions as much as possible.
In the brief online research I've done, thus far, I'm really liking this:
Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... mpare1=yes
anyone knows if this is available down here?

Get the BFG AT, it comes in 225/70R17 and they are EXCELLENT on and off road tires. Look on the truck forum and you will find alot of reviews there.

A Side B member runs them on his Hilux (Smeed) and he has tackled the very difficult Morne Diablo (Bunsee Tr) trail with them and he had no traction issues to mention. They have close to MT performance off road + great traction on road. Good thread life as well.

After seeing that tyre perform, I wouldn't recommend any other.

^^ thanks man, I was actually going to post the same thing over in that section, but got distracted.
just based on what I read over there though, it seems like pretty much the entire side b crew swears by that tire
I'll still make a post over there, but I'll be sure to update this post with my decision, price paid, etc :)

ok, just to update this thread, I ended up just getting a set of kumho SAT tires 235/65/17 at laughlin & degannes for a total of around $4100, inclusive of installation and alignment :) . They are a tad wider than stock, but I have no issues with rubbing (although, I've only driven on paved roads thus far).

I found these tires to be impossible to find in our size :x most places I went to said that they would have to special order them for me at an increased price of course. You could end up paying around $2,000 per tire with those, but beyond the price, I needed to change my tires and really couldn't risk waiting to have them imported. If you have the time and money, the bfg's really do look terrific though; you could try calling master serv and ask them for more info.

Zaria, are the tyres recommend earlier in this thread unavailable??

3stagevtec's BFG recommendation is very good, but be sure you want a tyre the offers on and off road handling. You'll immediately notice the rougher ride with such on/off-road tyres.

You can choose between:
Street/Sport Truck All-Season
Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season
Highway All-Season
On-/Off-Road All-Terrain
Off-Road Maximum Traction

If you're not going off-road intentionally, other than grass and the light dirt/mud, you'd have a more comfortable ride using Street/Sport Truck All-Season, Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season or Highway All-Season rated tyres. Check tirerack.com

I changed all four tires on a used 2006 GV i bought in March this year with Roadstones CP661 (I think) the rears are almost gone after 9 months and about 12,000km. The front set look as though they have about 65% left.

I guess this means the SGV carries more power to the rear, perhaps a 40/60 arrangement?

I paid $775 a piece for them and really wasn't looking forward to buying tyres again this year :(

That was your first mistake, Roadstone? No way my friend. Unfortunately, you got what you paid for.

Mileage Mack has the Toyo Proxes ST II for $1500+VAT. Excellent tyre, 420AA. Excellent wet/dry handling.

Thanks NorStar2K, you seem to be the authority in these parts :)

How does the Toyo rate against the Michelin LTX? I have a friend working at Michelin and she can get me slightly better pricing than what you quoted on the Toyo's.

As for the Roadstones, i didn't expect the best out of them but this has to be the worst performance i've ever gotten from a tire!

The Michelins (and Continentals) are the best tyres, but which LTX are you referring to? The A/S? If your going with Michelin, I'd go with the Latitude Tour, but its expensive.

Whenever looking for a tyre, focus on high marks for wet traction and hydroplane resistance. Dry traction is a given. Also, look for a thread-wear between 240-420 with a Traction and Temperature of: A. Example 420AA.

Thank you Sir, i'll most certainly heed your advice.

I'm not sure of the exact sub model of the LTX, but another friend of mine was able to get 80K off his set. I'll make sure to check the model and let you know. There was a recent deal on Michelins where you buy one and get the other @ 50% off, hopefully the deal is still on as i just found out my friend is out of the country.

Be careful with your focus on price as the determining factor only, or you'll end up with Roadstone quality and performance again. :D

Re: Suzuki Grand Vitara - tire choices

Honestly i bought the Roadstones because the set of tyres i got the Van with were in a really bad state and those were the only tyres readily available near me (Trincity area). I had the hardest time just finding the size. One tyre shop told me to take two and come back for the other two a couple days later and those were Nankang.

Now that i know better, i'll definitely factor in some more research before making another purchase. I like the fact that the michelins last so long but i need to research the wet grip etc.

Thanks again Norstar2k.

Suggestion for the mods:
Could we turn this into an "Official" Suzuki Tyre thread and keep it open for all owners to post their tyre questions, recommendations, place of purchase, price paid, et al :?:

Hey guys, Quickservice has a special on the Michelin LTX M\S. It is a buy one get one 50% off. The final price for two tyres vat inclusive is about $2,900.

This tyre scores pretty high in hydroplaning resistance (8.2), wet traction (8.3) and treadwear (9.1)

The sale is on till dec 22nd, so i'm hoping to get there before then.

I opted for the Michelin Latitude Tour HP due to the unavailability of the Toyo ST II from MM.

The Latitude Tour HP is Michelin's Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season SUV/CUV tyre.

I couldn't get the LTX in my size. Oh well. 8-)

So this means you rate the Toyo's higher than the Michelin?

Please give reviews when you can.

Not exactly, but the Mich is very expensive, regardless of the model, whereas the Toyos offer exceptional performance for half the price. Also, not all Michelins are the same.

And, in several reviews, e.g. at 1010tires.com, the ST-II [4.3] reviewed higher than the ATX [4.2] and the Latitude [3.8]

^^ Understood...will check out the Toyo's before making a decision. Worse yet the sale is over, so the price is now way less competitive.

At this point the Toyo's appear to be better bang for your buck.
