HR 2706 EH
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
1
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Billfish Conservation
2
Act of 2012’’.
3
SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
4
Congress finds the following:
5
(1) The United States carefully regulates its
6
domestic fisheries for billfish and participates in
7
international fishery management bodies in the At-
8
lantic and Pacific.
9
(2) Global billfish populations have declined sig-
10
nificantly, however, because of overfishing primarily
11
through retention of bycatch by non-United States
12
commercial fishing fleets.
13
(3) Ending the importation of foreign-caught
14
billfish for sale in the United States aligns with U.S.
15
management measures of billfish and protects the
16
significant economic benefits to the U.S. economy of
17
recreational fishing and marine commerce and the
18
traditional cultural fisheries.
....
guess we're a bit behind the 'conservation thing'

they would have only kept it if it was a record contender, these boys are VERY aware of the conservation of the Blue Marlin so they take great care in only killing fish that are over a certain size and weight, all others are tagged and released and they make sure they are revived if they are exhausted and cant swim properly. poor fella yes, but such is the circle of life and the meat will feed MANY and the prize money will go a long way for those young boys, a couple of them on tuner and I can vouch for them that they deserve it.. well done Predator crew

Hmm. So the fish will be bussup like any other. The smaller ones that doesn't matter are let go and taken care of until they can swim. Fk him up yes.

why yall sad for the fish..dat fish is of age to be caught.
in order to give the species a fighting chance of reproducing and survival,
yr not suppose to catch d small ones... giving dem time to grow to full maturity

and link no one wanna hear yr section 34 of fish laws
obviously u dont know jack sh!t
go watch some wicked tuna and educate yrself

A few things to note here fellas.

1) As far as I know the prize in this tournament (Tobago International Game Fish Tournament) for a blue over 1,000 lbs is a B Class Benz.
If it were caught in the TTGFA Marlin Madness tournament held earlier in the year, the prize would have been $1,000,000.

2) In most tournaments all the fish is processed and distributed to orphanages and poor houses around the country, I'm sure the Charlotteville tournament is no different.

3) All billfish tournaments in the Southern Caribbean have limits on the weights of fish you can bring. These vary between tournaments and species, but generally a Blue Marlin must be over 500 lbs to be brought to scale, anything less is to be released as bezman said.

4) All you extremist tree huggers out there have to realise that human beings also exist on this planet, so what we gonna do? not eat? Sport fishermen today are acutely aware of the dangers of overfishing and are extremely stringent with managing the rules to ensure that species live on for future generations.

That fish is way behind its genetic limits, they're believed to reach 2500lbs, possibly larger. They go after big tuna/mackerel even small porpoises.

I know its unlikely but I can't help imagine the scene as it would play out. if a few small time fisher men in a pirogue hook a monster like that.
