They should've never done it. I LOVE Blackberry devices, But they cannot survive in this world without BBM being exclusive to them.

I very much beg to differ, if a user was holding on to a BB just for BBM, then they arent the users BB needs.

If they can shed users like that and get users who value the whole platform it will be excellent for them and they will be able to retain those users better. BBM being exclusive might have helped slow the slide before BB10 came out, but keeping it exclusive now isn't necessary for success.

well it kinna makes sense... ppl with older bbs who love BBM dont have to worry about losing all those bbm contacts. so they can go ahead and buy the newest BB...

agreed. The main reason I stay with blackberry is for bbm. and the keyboard, i admit. but mostly for bbm.

Now that I have the option to switch to android without sacrificing bbm, it's very tempting to switch.

I want to them to switch me from the $59 to the $29 but knowing them, they might want to give me some story because I have a Z10 and they claim that their $29 plan is for BIS and Z10 doesnt use BIS.

i told them i wanted to switch... they told me that the $29 plan only allows for 2G usage and the Z10 will not access internet services with 2G .. only 4G [which is $59]

Anyone with a Z10 on digicel seeing the mobile hotspot feature in network settings?

Seems on mine that only my Z10 on bmobile has the hotsport feature available while on my Digi Z10 its not even there (carrier policies).

AFAIK Tethering is allowed. strange that they'd have it off for BB.

very strange indeed, if others have the same restriction I'll have to ask digicel about it

The Playbook is where sideloading all started, most of the converted apps were done for the playbook, the Z10 has a better android runtime and so it performs better there but the Playbook is equally capable and has been since mid 2011.
