Using an NHRA motor in a galant is a bad idea just saying. But to be fair those engines are not for the normal mortal man.

Overkill is the word.
But there's my yardstick...show me any other internal combustion engine that has broken the 4sec barrier and I'll become a believer.
True, but in terms that the lay-person can understand.....if you were to knock all V8s based on their poor showing here in T&T...on the street...then you'd be near-sighted to think they are the same outside of T&T....and when one does shine....go scouring the internet for a vid showin otherwise.

It's a rare privilege to actually "see" a 5sec pass...and I have...so I let them bump dey gumbs.

Come to think of it...The first 3 or 4 top mph and ets are shared by 8cylinder engines here in T&T....The "Legendary look it beat up all d V8s SKF Lancer"...did run a low 8 HERE a few times....and I'm sure someone's gonna blow a gasket and say "7s jed!"

But it really goes to show how myopic, one-sided ppl here can be....you decide to build the first...and only V8 powered drift car....and they start to wine....it really is a case of insecurity. Soooo many imports, and they're still insecure and feel they have to be "biggin themselves up".

I'll leave the "chupid" comments alone, and concentrate on the build...and let the many good V8s I've built/owned in the past speak for themselves.

But Mr. Tardieu (I apologise if I spelt that wrong), why you always have to be on the small engine case so? Everything is oh it dont have a real engine unless its a V8. Recently in St Lucia both the V8 powered Galant and the V8 Powered Laurel lost to an engine half their size eh.
Why cant we all just get along?

Even though this thread's about a Drift Capri (which will later evolve into a 1/4mile car)....I'll explain my position on Cars, and their engines...once and for all:-

My 1st car was a 1.3 Laser in '86, and since then have owned over 80 other cars, trucks and vans. From Subarus , Mazdas, Daihatsus, Nissans to Fords, Chevs, even a Lada, Niva, and Cherokee....rebuilt a few 4cyl, a 6 and an 8 or two.

I currently own 6 vehicles...a PCX Jimny, 79 GMC, 61 Hillman Super Minx, 59 Morris Minor, 41 Ford Convertible and that 70 Capri in the pics.

Each generation of owners are as varied as the cars they own, but as far as driveability, handling, comfort, fuel economy and availability...NOTHING beats a car of this "generation".

Here in T&T, because of the monopoly that the Big 3 had in the 60s and 70s...Neal & Nasty, Mc Enearny, and Amars....Trinis only knew a "certain" type of Japanese car... cheap knock down inferior gauge and poorly engineered 120ys, ke 70s and 180bs....now this not to knock any of these I mentioned...except for when you compare them with the SAME models that the Japanese manufactured for their own domestic market....simply put..they shipped the crap to us and kept the good stuff across in Japan. And in case any Neal & Nasty fans are offended....many of those reading this remember how much more we used to pay for the "extras"( AC, boosters, door mirrors, radios, power steering etc) that they N&M...removed from the cars..and then sold them at an additional cost.

So from a purely economical standpoint...TRINIDADIANS only owned a car IF they could have afforded it...cars were known as "luxouries" not the "necessities" as they are today.

That being said..Trinis attached greater emphasis and value on what the rest of the world viewed as a "commodity"...some thing to be used and discarded....hence why soooo many ol timers never drove their cars in the rain, undercoated them from purchase, pulled up their handbrakes with care and delicacy (not yankin them up) not allowin their kids to walk on the upholstery etc...
Cars were just too expensive for the "ordinary man" to purchase.

The era of the 70s...when Coronas and 260cs ruled....The Japs were beginning to copy the American trend of Chrome everywhere...except they were making the cars smaller and with lower displacement 4cyl engines.

It was around this era that Trinis started to benefit from the oil$$$, and Escorts, 180Bs, and Rx2s became the "street warriors"....though they were NEVER meant to act as "SPORT CARS"...Trinis because of the high cost to own and maintain a "Sports Car" (which btw is a car with two (2) doors..a 4 door is called a Sedan)...started to modify these light flimsy lower gauge econo cars to race on the road and on the strip.

And they did quite well for many years...til the advent..in Trini-World...of Fuel Injection and Turbos...the highly feared ol school Sunnys and Escorts with their naturally aspirated 4 cyl with single push rod cammed engines were no match for these new high-brids.

As opposed to the US and Europe, inc Australia...Trinis grew up on Japanese and English based 4cylinders....what the rest of the world knew as a Muscle car was viewed by many here as a 'big ol heavy piece of iron, that dead like ah ol horse"....

Never mind that V8s then and now hold ALL the land speed records for ets and top mph...( yeah, yeah I know, the BONE STOCK Lancer on YouTube did a 200mph pass...whoopee!) ..the Trinidadians "World"...as it had been then dominated by Japanese fed technology...has today, also been made to understand that 2jzs and rbs "run tings"...

And so with that bit of history...we can now tie in what my friend is many young ppls interpretation of a V8 guys....looking down his nose at a Japanese Grocery Getter.

The V8s first of all...don't start their modifications with a "motor swap"...
The term "no replacement for displacement" is not a slap in the face of the Japs...neither is it a new term...it was coined waaay back in the 50s...it is however a truism..as I will expain in simple clear logic...no laptop necessary to understand..here it is: Will a 6000lb Truck go faster with a 1.3liter than it would with a 5.0L V8?

If you point to a thousand vids of rbs or 2js...or V8 Galants or Mustangs being beaten by a New age import motor...all any one needs to do is to take one of those 8000hp NHRA engines and jus "stick it in" his Galant, Mustang etc...and the talk would be done right there.

There is no bragging rights once viewed from the statistical standpoint there will NEVER be a 2jz or rb...to develop 8000horses...yes, the New engines dem does beat Mustang and Camaro...when?...Straight off the show room floor? The GTR is yuh best comeback? In a 100yrs...will they be around? Now I love my likkle Jimny, and wish I could afford one of those Legacy Wagons...they are fun to drive and handle like dat...would I race them? No....especially if it had 4 doors.

New Age cars and their engines....reliable (10yrs) efficient, comfortable, fun to drive, flashy, gadgets galore, easy to fix/get parts for------>YES....V8s------> NO

World record holders?....Google it.

In Trini World? You guys... Take win!

Finally, how long have Trinis been experimenting with jzs and rbs...not about 8yrs now?..More?...and still cyah put down a low 8sec pass?.
( oh shucks ah fuhget Boost and dem, and Aaron...HELLO! How many motors did they DESTROY to get those 9s?...eh? ask them if you have the courage)..Gosh man, right there Puerto Rico...they droppin 7s ON THE STREET.....

Gosh man..travel nuh??!!

Doesn't that car push 600+HP from a four cylinder and weigh like 1300kg?

Would be epic to have him in TnT for an event.!

Very long and sordid story friend.....it'll take a while before I can talk about her again....let's just say for now, that she is no more.

It is me wanting to prove, that I made the car, and not it-me, that I am building this one.

It'll be twice as clean, fit and function.....on par with the best, and the motor will scream like a banchee.

Just keep following this thread, and that purple shell you see at the beginning....come to life!

Yes, I was there for that show (and all the others).
Doubt that seating will be enough......then again tickets won't be $2.00 so it may deter some folks.

Again nice idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing this car in action when completed.

forgot how much "tending" needs to be done on forums...was a l'il busy workin on d ting.

On my last Capri I used a 7.5 LSD from a Mustang that I shortened by Francis Engineering ..and made the brackets myself for RX7 3rd gen brakes that I got from Stoute. The leaf springs were stock and the car really was set up for 1/4mile runs....so I really wasn't concerned with "slowin down".

Think I'll go the 3rd gens again, and run some sub-frame connectors front to back, a bump-stop for the pumpkin, and an allum driveshaft.

Or I might go all 90s Mustang suspension as I bought one up the Islands and am goin to strip it and bring all the pieces.....soon. Unless some generous sponsor donates Baer or Wilwoods all round.

A nerve has been touched? Come on Sin...from that entire comment, carefully and succinctly worded and delivered with such candid flavour....THAT is what you're taking issue with? Or is it a rhetorical question?

If there is truth to the statement, then there would be no need for "raised feathers", however if there isn't and that "block...with the ORIGINAL PISTONS, CRANK AND GIRDLE" was in fact the very same one that Boost started with in 2009----and powered that car to it's glorified 8.9sec pass...then I retract my statement, and the matter should and would....end here.

One thing I wont do in this thread, is to use it to banter back and forth with Fellow Trinis who take offence when someone speaks straight. I have in no way Called anyone's name...is Boost the good gentleman's name? Is it that his Company's Logo/name is one that is automatically tied to his family and therefore must be defended by those not even remotely "related " to them?

Yet another "nerve" has been touched...ah but such is the way of us "Trinis" eh...The world revolves around us, and vice versa.

This said good gentleman/brand/team-member/owner....the one wid d 8.9 pass nah...visited my establishment just a few days ago, looking for some "ol iron" to buy. And as for Aaron....he will fix me himself if he wants to do so.

I have known them quite well and have even had the privilege of having them at two of my shows...I would sincerely doubt that he would take such offence at words so plainly spoken as those I typed earlier.

If in your eyes my "plain talk..bad manners" has offended you....
Then by all means.....discontinue following this Thread.

I do "see" your point however, and therefore retract my statement...and it should read:

"oh shucks ah fuhget d 9sec 2jz/rb crew and dem..."

to start with, no it's not the STOCK pistons & rods, but THAT in itself isnt the matter, and the engine never leaned out damaging a piston, or spun a bearing, building it just made it capable to what it can do today.... make CONSISTENT low 9 sec passes, however that was just simply one side of the story..... but you 'retract your statement?' .....

do explain this one:

Sparky Ramoutar i take offense to that statement or our your line of thinking, that we in tnt not capable of building cars to run 7s and 8s for your information we already have street cars running 8sand 9s all locally built. we are capable of thinking and developing engines and chassis.if u were at the track u would have seen an engine build at the track by our local guys and run 8s the next run.i expected a lot better from a person like u. we already build imports power plants to take us to 7s and 8s . i am not talking about buying a v8 crate engine.i would tell you this if i try my hands at a v8, i would get through with it with my experience and thinking.note i am not against u as a person, only what u said

^ you really need to polish up on your reading and comprehension skills. Anyhoo....like I said, back to the interesting and less convoluted story...of a V8 Drift Capri.

its more PR than anything

and u know i dont give a sheit about who laughs at what lol, its just my personal opinion on things, like when i hear ppl say 'when they mash up a motor' it disappoints me to hear people that simply lack the knowledge, or just ignorantly care not to attain more knowledge on wtf they're talking about. :drinking:
