******Gold Cup 2013******

Postby cornfused » July 8th, 2013, 9:13 pm

Opening game for TnT , a bit scrappy but a 2-2 Draw with El Salvador. They hit the post twice , but we had our chances . Too scrappy going forward at times. Little service for Jones in the first half . We had better spells in the 2nd and a great goal from Jones to tie it up . JM Williams made a spectacular save in the 89th from a point blank overhead strike. We taking that and better going forward.

Well put @Cornfused.
With our extreme height advantage. Why wasn't Gay started?

Why Gay was not started : He has speed and strength, him with Jones would have been more than a handful for that El Salvador Defense . On the set plays and non wayward crosses ,yes. I also thought that Radanfa should have come on . He was deemed to be too slow but he is still one of our better defenders. With these tall men 3 on a corner they would have paid the price . However speed was also needed in defense.

Why was Birchall on the bench : Match fitness maybe but I also asked this question with the wayward long range shooting

All in all a good game, a draw was a deserved score line. They had chances and we has chances. Having said that we need to be more clinical in front of goal and also tighten up the back a lot.

Kenwyne Jones who normally plays lazy some say led by example and put in a good performance with hustle plays etc.

There was a marked improvement of the brand of football seen tonight under our new coach, we could have easily won the game and just as easily lost it though. Saw a lot of errant passing as well so that needs to be tightened up also. Great start, looking fwd to seeing some improvement.

More focus should be placed on getting quality balls into the box also with Jones height advantage for him to power a header or knock it down for an oncoming player, you could see he got frustrated at times with the service.

Overall much improved tho ... at times I was a bit surprised that this was a post 2008 squad.

I'm looking for an even better performance next game. I think the boys have the belief now!

It was an enjoyable match. I must admit, the T&T squad showed character after that second Salvadorian goal...normally they'd just throw in the towel.

Having said that, our team's defense needs some work. True, the uprights saved us a couple of times, but it was more the opposition's poor finishing that let us off the hook. And yes Williams's save at the death was brilliant.

But it's just the first game against what was arguably a youthful and inexperienced team. Let's see how they do with more credible opposition.

men hadda play good to get noticed by scouts...

it was a decent game, our midfield was non-existent, Keon looked good, KJ did what he's there to do, Jan looked shaky at times but great save from the bicycle kick, we were also saved by El Salvador's errant finishing

the team is playing too slow and lacks flair and pace going forward,we need speedy wingers and another playmaker to help daniel, theobald served no person on the field,he wasnt winning the ball or distributing it properly.

Joker is spot on. Again our midfield is nowhere. The defense was clearly lost when in possession, passing amongst themselves and the just clearing it up the field when pressured. I'm happy for the result but this seems more lucky than deserved

KJ was excellent - never seen him more motivated in a TnT shirt.
Edwards i thought did pretty well also - was the driving force for most of our attacks.
Daniel was poor other than one late pass through to Edwards. His movement was lacking at times and majority of his passing was atrocious. Shouldve been pulled off much earlier.
Biggest dissapointment was our full backs - didn't support the wingers but didn't tuck in to help the central defenders, made poor passes, miscontrolled numerous times...
Thought we should have started Cyrus. Very dirty player but his physicality wouldve easily gotten us out of most of the pickles those guys found themselves in.
Theobauld wasnt half bad. He was also the supporting player for the wingers. Didnt do anything fancy but held it up fairly well and kept us posession at some crucial times.
Hyland was dissappointing knowing how good he is. Showed glimpses every now and again but seemed lost in that deep role. Needed to be more advanced.
JMW made one good save. Not very good on the goal but it was a good shot anyway. Impressed with his handling of air balls into the box.

All in all a much improved performance from what we've seen recently. Tough ask to get out of the group but fingers crossed. Looking forward to the next game. Time to get some more youth back in - the U21s from a couple years ago to be specific.

Very different.

That goal scored because the defenders were ball watching instead of marking the man who tapped in the rebound.

We're losing shape, men running into each other and all kinda chupidness.

We had a good 5 minutes of sustained pressure about 30' into the match, but most of the time them looking to pass the ball all the way back and restart the play, giving the Haitians time to regroup.

They have some work to do.

Good job by T&T in losing to Haiti. That was the TTFF's way of making it up to them for the Earthquake money from Australia that never reach them.

T&T showed their true colours in this match. Compared to El Salvador they were up against a physically stronger and more skillful Haitian side and they got trounced.

They must beat Honduras, the strongest this group, in their final meeting on Monday if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the next round.

They go need some serious obeah for that.
