actually PP said they are into the solar panels. Also i know of a few small homes driectly powered by solar but on a very small scale aka panels and batteries just for lights not for A/C

price smart brought some that can power lights and a patio and they were never locked up lolol.

i really want it for the living room where my parents relax where the A/C will be on for atleast 12 hrs. had the room check it needs a 36000BTU.

they use a single water chiller outside and single loop of water going to each room and each room has an air handler very similar to what a split would have inside

RIPEBREDFRUIT wrote:JWT, have a look at the "CHILLER" type a/c units.
Service experts sells them, runs a bit differently to conventional a/c's but are quite effective and they burn no more that a small refrigerator.
You can have those on for much loger and still burn much less than normal units.

Any details on this and what btu is a $10k setup ?
have you installed any as yet ?

I also have a contact to get fully powered units at a very very reasonable price. But I have not started to market them as yet. I am doing the return on investment before I move forward with this venture.

I can also convert existing system to solar powered but this comes at a heavy price

wind is your best option........day and night it always there.

i got some of these

should be around $6,000 for a 450watt unit....... :?
then u need a larger battery bank with good charge controllers an a big enough power inverter to run a house AC unit.

My test system used a 500w grid tie power inverter with Dump Load Controller
made for DC Wind Turbines, input power is DC 10.8V-30V

The grid-tie inverter can transfer wind energy directly into the home power grid using no battery banks. The thing can be connected to any outlet in the home and it controls the phase and the frequency and voltage of the power generated by the wind generator and matches it to what Powergen has in my wires. It can maintain the rotating speed of the wind turbine and keep the voltage steady like when the wind is too big, so it is very safe to be used. When I had no load in the house the older T&Tec meter ran backwards as the excess power I made went to the neighbors......never tested it on the new versions but I suspect they would do the same. Even though it is very simple I dont like it since no power is stored for use during Powergen blackouts.

Off-grid systems works best for me to run everything else like lights, fans, TV set, stereo, computer systems and maybe the fridge. Leaving the power hungry systems like the Aircon on Powergen.

^^^I think PriceSmart had some 400W ones for around $4k.....not sure of the durability and construction though.

the initial cost of the CHiller type Ac units is expensive but its still cheaper than trying to go solar.
chiller type a/c require leess maintenance than regular ac's.

No we have not done any yet. but the control is simple we have been testing for the past couple of months and integrating the solar power into the inverter system.

this would be a 12000 BTU system when we start marketing we will be in a position to give better prices.
