Mac mini? I had one and it's pretty cool...u should try that first for real to make sure u like it..plus u can use your own big screen a ur monitor...if u have to buy apple monitor, apple keyboard and Magic Mouse etc then it may come up to a little less than buying a full Mac though so be aware of that

AFAIK Mac Mini is a mobile processor and iMac is a desktop processor

so spending the lil extra would be worth it.

however the new iMac cannot be upgraded unless you want to use a heat gun and remove the glued glass panel that is fused to the LCD (there are no screws) to get inside. The Mac Mini can be upgraded by the user.

Apple 13.3" MacBook Air
8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
128GB flash storage
Intel HD Graphics 5000

Which processor would you go with?

1.3GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz - $1,174.99

or

1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz [Add $169.01]

Depends on what you want to do with it. The MacBook air cannot be upgraded by the end user so depending on what you plan to use it for you need to make sure that all of the specifications you need are built in when ordering.

If you plan to use it as a netbook with Office then you can go with the lowest specification, however if you'd like to do Photoshop or video editing then you should try to max it out as much as possible.

Understand the Mac makes much better use of system resources so you will be able to do quite a lot with the lower processor and just 4 gigs of RAM.

Personally I got the 8GB of ram even though it would be for mostly net book use.

Thanks. It will be my "go to" machine for everything with an external monitor when I'm stationary. So I may upgrade the CPU to the i7 and well 8GB ram for sure.

http://www.macmall.com has some good deals.

Max the memory and storage with the basic processor and you'll have a sweet machine.
The SSD is PCIE which is faster than SATA.
The faster processor will be money wasted. If you're doing video editing or auto cad you'll need a system with a dedicated video processor.

Here's a comprehensive review.
Jump to the conclusion if its too much of a read.

^ I'll agree with that.
Max out the RAM for sure. I'm not sure how much the faster CPU will help you.

I'm two minds about maxing out the SSD. I don't really store large files on my laptop so the 120GB was more than enough for me. Heck even my desktop workstation only has a 120GB SSD but I use a 4TB NAS for file storage.

Thanks for the link 2WNBoost, I'll take a read later.

The i7 may really be a waste of money. The convience of a larger SSD may be better than lugging around a portable USB 3.0 HD. I can trasnfer larger files if and when needed.

I would not be doing auto cad or any video editing.

Light PS and mostly coding in DW or the better OSX DW alternatives.

^ thunderbolt to a external SSD hard drive will be faster than USB 3.0

again, depends on what you are using it for. Do you always work with huge files that wont fit on your 120GB HDD or can't fit on a 16GB thumb drive?

AnandTech has a comparison posted of the 2 processors, here's the link
(Again jump to the conclusion if the article is too much)
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7113/2013-macbook-air-core-i5-4250u-vs-core-i7-4650u

Either way you'll really enjoy the portability and snappy application launch times of the Air.
Systems with SSD storage is the way forward.

Best of luck.

The 3GS had generally positive reviews of smooth performance on iOS 5 (some even claim better performance), making it still a good candidate for iOS 6. The iPhone 3GS currently supports iOS 6.1.3. It doesn't support iOS 6.1.4, but that version is exclusive to the iPhone 5."

thanks.
so are you suggesting its better to update to 6.1.3 from 5.1.1?
reason i am asking is because i am currently on 5.1.1 bb 05.13.04 and is slowing and sticking someones.

thanks again
