This is my kitchen garden. Its a hydroponic flood and drain system. Its actually a trial which for a greenhouse i plant to construct in the dry season next year. Crops include tomatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, baigan, lettuce, chive, parsley, sweet pepper, hot pepper, thyme, pakchoi, celery. All crops use the same nutrients. Started in March and so far reaped at least 600 tomatoes from 25 plants. Some materials that i used were scraps from around the house. So far so good.

yes rfari i mix the nutrients, calcium nitrate, blaukorn 12.12.17, magnesium sulphate.
I use Newmectin insecticide for mites on tomatoes and as a precaution i use a fungicide also. I apply as foliar every two weeks. Basically that's all i use and i recently started using caspower to help tomato and pepper blooms.

Nice meng. Motivation! Any issues with micronutrient deficiencies? One of my mixtures were similar but i added trace minerals to cover the micros. Early next year i will be back at it. Wedding and school will be out of the way

Cool bro, had some spare time to experiment with it and get it right. The nutrient mixture i used is a balanced mixture for all stages of plant growth (root, leaf, flowers) whether it is lettuce (leaves), cauliflower (flowers) or tomato (fruit). The Blaukorn does include some micro nutrients such as iron, boron and zinc and other trace elements and the calcium nitrate i used carries boron.

The key to a good mixture is using the correct proportions of fertilizers because there are some molecules that react with others forming solid precipitate which would become useless. When suitable ratios are used this could be avoided.

Have not read through entire thread, sorry, but I am looking at doing an IBC tank backyard aquaponics system.
Any advice for the plant media?

Been bogged down with work...so far just back at it with mint and basil. Having issues with ph, potassium/iron deficiencies.

Finally found potassium for sale locally which also works as a ph buffer.

Mint has been in recovery over the last three days. The basil. Even though growing. Still a bit yellow.

And I added the other growbed finally. With leca I bought from a dude on tuner. Hoping to do some more expansion soon and start back with lettuce and maybe peppers

Aquaponic system completed now looking for some tilapia

Postby Sharon_S » December 4th, 2013, 8:48 pm

So I finally finished my aquaponic system see video

Now I am looking for some tilapia fingerlings. a while back I saw a guy selling them for $2.00 in the newspapers but I am not seeing the ad again.
I have already filled the grow beds with gravel and the auto siphons are working great.

Anyone with info as to where I can get it please send me a message.
Thanks
