This is strange, males can donate every 3 months, females every 4 to 6 months, so why quite June 2013?

Folks,

My Dad (Roland Jaggernath) is in need of two pints of O positive blood, the blood bank doesn't have his blood type at present hence the need for a specific type. He has to undergo surgery on Friday, so I guess they will need the blood by Thursday. The bank is at Gulf View Medical (opposite Gulf City, red building) and they are open until six but u have to get there by 4. Thanks in advance for the help! Also, sorry about the short notice.

I gave blood for a friend brother the other day. I thinking it worth while to give blood on a regular to avoid the hassle of rushing to get donors in a emergency situation.

Just got a call fro the Blod Bank @ Mt Hope. They're calling voluntary donors to schedule appointments so you don't have to wait to give. This is a great initiative to folks like myself who are always willing to donate, but don't always have the time to sit and wait. I always felt voluntary donors should get some sort of preferential treatment. Yes I know those waiting to give are doing so because someone needs blood, but most of them would never give of their own accord anyway

MG Man
can you post the number to set the appointment for Mount Hope, i tried donating a while back but hey were short staff and kept asking me to come back, I just got tired and never bothered but definitely go if its based on an appointment system, not to waste anyone's time.

Just double and maybe triple checking here :
    - you have to be 17 to give blood with parental consent and 18 to give blood on your own
    - you have to wait a while (couple months I believe it was) to give blood after getting a piercing and like a year after a tattoo
    - Do they screen the blood for weed before they take it or do they just screen it for viruses and the like?

Reason I asking is cuz my mom always wanted me to give blood and I really want to pierce my lip still. So i was tryna negotiate piercings with donating blood. Plus I go feel bad piercing it on my own without at least giving a little back. My aunt used donated blood after her bone marrow transplant so i guess its the right thing to do.

Went and gave for the first time yesterday. I went to POS. Got through in no time. Took an hour but that was because according to the woman I had "lazy blood" lol.

Staff was very friendly too. Will definitely go back in 3 months.

I used to willingly give blood to strangers in need on one condition: either the person making the request, or the recipient, become a voluntary donor afterward...........since I started giving blood in 1995, not one of those people has become a donor. I'd call up a few months after or whenever, and they'd always have an excuse or three...........in the last few years, I've resolved not to give anyone any blood as long as my account is 5 or less, because it's time I cover my a-ss a bit now.......at one point I was up to nine units. I'm now back up to three, 2 more to go
It sounds selfish, but I'm sick of ppl looking for help / sympathy, desperate help, but not willing to pay it forward :-/

I Support your stance on this.

Regrettably, even after persons who request the help get it, there is still no effort to become a voluntary donor, from any member of the recipient's family.

I have event stood up at all of the major motor clubs EOY functions and suggested at least some members make the effort to donate on a voluntary basis, but without success.

Guess only when in dire emergency state, will any effort be made, and that is only to satisfy the imediate need.

I gave blood recently and as soon as they were done, bag in the cooler, I asked for the bucket and puked and almost passed out.. that was embarrassing.

So you seem to be one of those who would get upset at the sight of blood.
Should still try to continue and just advise the staff of your "condition" and they can ensure no blood in sight.

You may very well get over this issue.
