SCHOOLGIRL Selina Ghany, 13, is alive and safe. She yesterday contacted her worried sister Cindy Smith and asked that she be picked up at the corner of Duke and Charlotte streets in Port-of-Spain. The teen made contact with her brother at 11 am. Relatives alerted police who quickly went to Port-of-Spain where they took custody of Ghany and took her to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was medically examined. Selina was then taken to the office of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit where she last night was being interviewed by officers. She, was spoken to by officers of the Police Service’s Victims Support Unit.

According to reports, Selina was seen in the Princes Town area but was dropped off in Port-of-Spain yesterday. Exactly who dropped her off, who kept her and if she was kept against her will, last night remained a mystery to the police who are hoping these questions will be answered in the coming days. Police sources told the media Selina had contacted a male relative identified only as “Ricardo” late Saturday telling him she was feeling pressured at home and needed a break. However, her parents Indra and Ramesh had no knowledge of their daughter complaining about any discomfort at home.

Yesterday, prior to the schoolgirl being found, worried relatives sought spiritual guidance from a pundit. This in addition to relatives taking to social media to try and spread the word of their missing loved one. Yesterday, the worried parents breathed a sigh of major relief when they got the news that Selina had been found and she was alive. “Thanks to everyone. “Thanks to those who prayed with us and supported us. She called our brother this morning and told him to come get her. “Right now, we don’t know where she is but we know she is alive and she is safe,” a relieved Cindy Smith said as she spoke about her sister Selina, at the family’s home in Boissiere, Maraval.
