Shoppers hunt more bargains
Boxing Day frenzy in South

By Susan Mohammed susan.mohammed@trinidadexpress.com

THE HOLIDAY shopping continued yesterday at the Gulf City shopping complex, where hundreds flocked to capitalise on the Boxing Day sales.
More than 95 per cent of the retail stores at the popular mall in La Romaine, near San Fernando, were open to the shopping public, who did not disappoint in returning to check the advertised deals of slashed prices, discounts and bargains.
When the Express visited yesterday, store managers said that from around 10.30 a.m. consumers began spilling through the doors and the flow of customers was a steady stream throughout the day.
"People are just buying," said Liz Joseph, manager of Bright Ideas store, a household and decorative items retail outlet.
"Earlier this morning, there was a crowd. It died down a little, now it's coming right back up. The sales were very good Christmas Eve, and it's the same today even after Christmas. We have 50 per cent off the Christmas flowers and decorations and people are just buying", said Joseph.
Foot Candy, one of the newer outlets at the mall, experienced good sales, said assistant manager and cashier Jenielle Jacob. "I did not expect this crowd today," said Jacob.
Sales were non-stop at Wonderful World, a popular lingerie and accessories store, said sales representative Shurla Sidoo. "There is ten per cent discount store-wide and people just want to take something home with them today. The cashier line has been to the back of the store since this morning because the deals are very good, even better than before Christmas Eve," said Sidoo.
At Radio Shack, a popular electronics and appliances retail outlet, the doors were temporarily closed to consumers who gravitated towards advertised discounts throughout the store.
