I had a conversation today with a young officer attached to 'tactical unit' in chaguanas and must admit that there are really constructive personnel in the service.
There appears to be a serious effort being placed on confronting those who insist on violent criminal activity.

COPS KILL 4

TT Newsday
By NALINEE SEELAL and RYAN HAMILTON-DAVIS Friday, March 28 2014

WITHIN the space of six-and-a-half hours, between Wednesday night and yesterday morning, police in Chaguanas and Laventille shot and killed four men in two unrelated shoot-out incidents, bringing to 14, the number of persons killed by police this year in exchanges of gunfire.

In the first incident, two men who robbed a Claxton Bay private-hire (PH) taxi driver and two passengers of a quantity of cash, cellphones and other valuables were killed in a shoot-out with police at Xavier Street off the Endeavour Link Road in Chaguanas at 10.45 pm on Wednesday. During the shoot-out, a constable of Freeport Highway Patrol was shot in his right hand.

One of the dead bandits was identified as Satrohan Ramdhanie, 22, of Plantana Drive, Dyett Estate, Cunupia.

Ramdhanie was positively identified by his father Naresh Ramdhanie while the second bandit was identified by police as Anthony Hospedales, 18, of Sunflower Drive, Dyett Estate, Cunupia. Speaking at the scene in Chaguanas on Wednesday night, Snr Supt Johnny Abraham said, “I want to thank my officers for a job well done. Everyday we as officers are not sure to return home alive. Even as guns were blazing, my officers stuck to the task and risked their lives to do their duty, to do their job. I always tell my officers we are paid to do a job and do it we must. We are not hiding...we will deal with them and sometimes we have to make decisive decisions and no problem. We pursued these men relentlessly.”

Ramdhanie’s father refused to comment saying all he is concerned about now is to collect his son’s body for a funeral. Hospedales’ mother Ann Marie Olton, in an interview yesterday, said her son used to frequently spend the night at their neighbour’s home, so when he did not come home on Tuesday, she was not at all concerned about his whereabouts.

However, when she dialed his cellular phone, it was switched off and she made enquiries to locate her son, but to no avail. It was when she went to Cunupia Police Station to file a Missing Persons report, that Olton was told to go to the Chaguanas Police Station where she was told her son had been killed in a shootout with police.

Speaking about the eldest of her six children, Olton said she was unaware her son was involved in crime. “My son never brought home any stolen items neither did he give me any indication that he was involved in crime. It is my belief he was asked to accompany this other person on a ride and was innocently caught up in this robbery and shoot-out with the police,” Olton said.

Police sources told Newsday at about 10.45 pm on Wednesday, Shawness Hosein, 29, of Spring Vale Village, Claxton Bay was driving his car along Pointe-a-Pierre Road in San Fernando with four male passengers, en route to Couva.

When Hosein neared the Petrotrin refinery compound, one of the passengers asked to be dropped off at the Augustus Long Hospital at Beaumont Hill. When Hosein brought his car to a stop, a passenger pulled out a gun while another passenger announced a hold-up.

Hosein was robbed of US$1,060, a cellphone valued $6,000 and the keys to his recently purchased Nissan Bluebird car. The two other passengers were also robbed. Hosein and the two other passengers were then forced out of the car by Ramdhanie and Hospedales who drove off in the car at St Margaret’s Village.

A report was made and police issued an All-Points-Bulletin (APB) with the stolen car being spotted proceeding near Sum Sum Hill. A chase then ensued during which gunshots were exchanged between the bandits and police. The car was forced to stop as a result of a road block in Freeport, with Ramdhanie and Hospedales shooting at the police who returned fire.

Constable Ramsey of Freeport Highway Patrol was shot in his right hand. The bandits managed to drive off from the roadblock, but were spotted on Xavier Street off the Endeavour Link Road, Chaguanas where the vehicle was intercepted by Central Division police near a used car lot at Endeavour Link Road by officers led by Snr Supt Johnny Abraham and including Sgt Jitendra Toolaram and others. Another exchange of gunfight ensued this time with both bandits being shot multiple times.

Ramdhanie and Hospedales were taken to Chaguanas Health Centre where they were pronounced dead on arrival. A 9 mm semi-automatic pistol and four rounds of ammunition, a cellular phone valued $6,000 and US$1,000 were recovered in the stolen car.

Laventille ‘menaces’ taken out

In the second incident, two men who were described by Laventille residents as “menaces” were shot dead by police during an exchange of gunfire after officers sought to execute a search warrant at the suspects’ home at Sapodilla Trace, Laventille.

The dead gunmen have been identified as Jerome “Cookie” Clunis, 21, and Gilbert “Gaza” Browne, 22. According to a police report, at about 5.15 am yesterday, a party of North-Eastern Task Force officers led by Insp Roger Alexander and including Cpl Sunil Bharath and others went to a house at Sapodilla Trace, Laventille to execute a search warrant.

As the officers walked up to the house, they were fired upon by two men with officers taking cover and returning gunfire, hitting the suspects — Clunis and Browne — several times.

Both men were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Police sources said that an UZI submachine gun was seized inside the house.

Residents along Critchlow Trace were yesterday celebrating news of the death of the two men with several telling Newsday that Clunis and Browne were “menaces”. The residents commended the police for their swift action.

“They were a pestilence to this community since August of last year,” said a resident of Critchlow Trace. The resident said Clunis and Browne were known to the community as gangsters operating on instructions from a gang leader who is currently imprisoned.

The Critchlow Trace residents’ views were not shared by residents of Sapodilla Trace with several saying that Clunis and Browne were nice persons who were not involved in crime.

“Ask anybody on this street about Clunis and Browne and you will hear those two never bothered anyone,” said a Sapodilla Trace resident. The resident said Clunis was a vendor while Browne was in construction.

Browne’s mother Marylin Browne, 45, said her son was a loving, kind person who enjoyed playing football. Asked about claims that her son was a gangster, Browne said he was not a member of any gang to her knowledge.

“They used to say all kinds of things about my son. I asked him myself if he was involved with any gang and he told me, ‘mammy I not in nothing’,” Browne said as she spoke with Newsday yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

Clunis’ girlfriend Nikita Door-gadeen said she was present when the police raided the Sapodilla Trace house and claimed that officers shot both Browne and Clunis in cold blood.

She said officers kept demanding to know where guns and ammunition were hidden in the house. “The policeman told me, ‘if you don’t tell me, I will kill them.’ I told him I don’t know what guns they were talking about. He said, ‘I am giving you one last chance.’ I said again that I don’t know about any guns and the officer said, ‘fine, then I’m going to kill them’.

“After that I could see the officers putting handcuffs on Jerome and then I just heard shots. First I heard two single shots and after I just heard police guns just going off. When they came outside they made me leave the house and I went to my sister’s home,” Doorgadeen said.

Cops shoot fraud suspect in Tunapuna

Postby jetta » April 7th, 2014, 7:47 pm

A 37-year-old suspected fraudster was wounded while attempting to flee from police in El Dorado, Tunapuna, yesterday. The suspect, who police said had no fixed place of abode, was shot in his leg and remained warded under police guard at hospital.
According to police reports, shortly after 2.30 pm officers of the Northern Division CID led by Insp Mark Maharaj received a report that the suspect, who had been wanted by police for several months, was liming at Captain’s Bar at the corner of the Eastern Main Road and St Cecelia Road, El Dorado. When the officers arrived on the scene they confronted the suspect, who managed to break free and dash towards his white Nissan Wingroad, which was parked near by.
Investigators said the suspect drove east along the Main Road and was followed by the officers. The officers fired several warning shots at the car in a bid to get the driver to surrender. The suspect was eventually shot in the leg and crashed into the curb at Mc Seveney Street. He got out and attempted to escape but was caught. When a news team from the T&T Guardian visited the bar yesterday, patrons and staff all claimed they did not notice the incident.
“We was liming and hear the gunshots. It happen so fast we barely see anything,” one patron, who asked not to be identified, said. Police said the suspect, who is wanted for several offences at various locations across Trinidad, only suffered a “flesh wound” and was expected to be discharged soon. Once discharged the suspect will be handed over to detectives from the Fraud Squad.
In an unrelated matter, two men are expected to appear in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today charged with the robbery of a 94-year-old cancer patient and his 65-year-old daughter. Police said shortly after 3 pm, the two suspects, armed with knives, broke into the family’s home and began threatening the two elderly relatives, who operate a small parlour which is annexed to their house at Jankie Trace, Las Lomas Number 2.
When the relatives refused to surrender their valuables, the suspects grabbed the man’s daughter and began choking her with a metal bar as he watched helplessly. The relatives eventually handed over $800 and a quantity of cigarettes to the suspects, which prompted them to leave.
Police said neighbours contacted them after they heard the relatives’ screams for help and saw the suspects leaving their premises. A group of officers from the Las Lomas Police Station, led by Sgt Nash, were on patrol in the community and responded to the call. The suspects were chased to a nearby construction site where they surrendered to the officers

NAIM DEAN, the man shot dead by police on Friday night near his Glencoe home, had earlier in the day robbed a woman and her soldier boyfriend of their Nissan Navara vehicle, St James CID officers said yesterday.
The robbery victims had initially reported that their vehicle was stolen at gunpoint while they were parked at Point Cumana at 6 p.m. Friday.
The woman said she went to the St James CID when she recognised Dean as the man who robbed her after she saw his photo in the Sunday Express.
On Friday night around 7.30 p.m. Dean, 21, and a group of men were stopped by officers of the Rapid Response Unit as they attempted to exit the La Horquette Valley Road in Glencoe.
Dean was reportedly ordered out of the SUV and while being searched by a special reserve police officer, he reportedly brushed aside the officer’s hand and ran off.
Police said they ran after him and caught him but during a scuffle with the officers Dean allegedly stabbed one of them following which the officer opened fire on the boy.
Dean’s relatives have said that he was gunned down “in cold blood”.
He died on arrival at the St James District Hospital.
An autopsy done at the Forensic Science Centre on Monday concluded that Dean sustained a gunshot to the back.
On Monday, president of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Insp Anand Ramesar called for the shutdown of the Rapid Response Unit which is staffed mainly by special reserve police officers as they lack proper training.
A preliminary report on his death has been submitted to acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams, acting Superintendent Joanne Archie said yesterday.
Police said the couple who said Dean robbed them of their vehicle saw Dean’s photo in the Sunday Express and went to the Carenage Police Station where they informed detectives that the man had earlier robbed them.
Dean’s funeral will take place at 10 a.m. today at a St Peter’s RC Church in Carenage.

Cops cursed at van thief’s funeral
By Gyasi Gonzales gyasi.gonzales@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: Apr 17, 2014 at 9:31 PM ECT
Story Updated: Apr 17, 2014 at 9:43 PM ECT
FRIENDS and associates of 21-year-old Naim Dean, who was shot dead by police last week Friday night, about an hour after he stole a van at gunpoint, hurled obscenities at some police officers present at his funeral yesterday morning.
Dean, of La Horquette Valley Road, Glencoe, was killed around 7.30 p.m. on Friday when a vehicle he was in was intercepted by officers of the Rapid Response Unit.
According to police reports, Dean and his friends were stopped by a party of Special Reserve Police (SRP)officers, but while Dean was being searched, he ran off.
Police said they ran after him and while attempting to re-arrest him, he stabbed one of the officers who then shot him during the melee.
He later died on arrival at the St James District Hospital.
Dean’s relatives and friends however claimed he was killed in “cold blood” and that before he ran off, he was slapped by one of the officers.
About an hour and a half earlier before being intercepted by the police, Dean, armed with a 9 mm pistol, robbed a Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force soldier and his girlfriend of their nearly new Nissan Navara pick-up while the couple were parked in the Pt Cumana, Carenage, area.
The couple reportedly saw Dean’s photo in the Sunday Express, following which they went to the Carenage Police Station and said it was he who robbed them on Friday evening.
Jane Simon, Dean’s grandmother, who is also an alderman with the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, spoke during the funeral, which took place at the St Peter’s RC Church in Carenage.
She said he was an avid lover of football but described when he was younger, his father, Ray Simon, had died of a massive heart attack, following which he became a very withdrawn child.
She said he had just a few friends and did not like to lime or party much.
“He seldom smiled but when he did, he lit up the entire village,” she told the congregation yesterday.
Monsignor Cuthbert Alexander, who delivered the homily, urged the congregation to draw strength from Christ during this holy week.
The Express was told by one of Dean’s relatives that the several police officers present at the funeral yesterday were there to show support for Dean’s stepfather, who is a police officer.
The Police Complaints Authority, as well as the St James Police, is continuing investigations into the young man’s shooting death, but an interim report has already been submitted to the Ag Commissioner of Police, Stephen Williams.

TWO suspected thieves were shot by a San Fernando businessman this morning during an attempted robbery.

The suspects, who police said were from Tarouba and La Horquetta, were detained by police in Mon Repos.

According to a report, at around 9 a.m. the two suspects went to the businessplace of import distributor Wei Li Chung at Hart Street, and pointed a shot gun and a revolver at him and his employees.
The businessman drew his licenced firearm and shot at the suspects.

The thieves grabbed cell phones and ran out of the building.
Police were called, and Senior Superintendent Cecil Santana and a party of police officers of the Southern Division Task Force, San Fernando and Mon Repos CIDs responded.

Police arrested the suspects a few streets away from the crime scene, and recovered a homemade shotgun with two rounds of ammunition.

One of the suspects was shot in the groin, the Express was told.

Business immigrants legal or illegal know the cost of doing business even if they have to grease the right ppl.

Here's a true story, I know this bro that applied and got turned down. So he staged two robberies of his own then he reapplied with a donation and bingo FUL in full.

Freed from Death Row, killed by cops
...Anthony Amogan was a suspect in several murders

By SUSAN MOHAMMED susan.mohammed@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: May 9, 2014 at 1:47 PM ECT
Story Updated: May 9, 2014 at 1:52 PM ECT
FORMER Death Row inmate Anthony Amogam, freed two years ago after a judge found that the delay in completing his case was unjustified, was shot dead by police today at La Paille Village, Caroni.
According to police, a party of police officers of the Chaguanas CID and Central Division went to Amogan's house at Diamond Avenue to search his house for firearms and ammunition.

Police said they were turned up at the house, they greeted by gunfire.
Officers returned fire and Amogan was killed. A nine millmetre pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition was recovered at the crime scene, police said.

Police said Amogan, 43, was a suspect in the recent murder of nightwatchman Michael Heeralal, who was shot dead outside his home, and other homicides in the Central Division.
Amogan was freed by Justice Malcolm Holdip who ruled on December 14, 2012 that a delay of almost 16 years for his murder trial to be completed, could not be justified.

Amogan, a baker and cake decorator, was allowed to go home.
The Express reported then that after emerging from the Hall of Justice, Amogan thanked his attorney Daniel Khan for taking up the matter when several other attorneys appointed by the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority (LAAA) returned the brief.

"I am very grateful to God for being a free man today," Amogan had said. "It was not easy. The experience was very hard. They are not really doing anything to enhance the situation at all."

Asked about his view of the justice system in light of his lengthy incarceration, Armogan, who lived at Frederick Settlement, Caroni, said the wheels of justice are moving too slowly.
"There are persons in prison today who are suffering because of delays caused by the prosecution always making excuses. There was no need for that. They could have done this case expeditiously just how they did for (Ishwar) Galbaransingh and (Steve) Ferguson and them".

Amogan said he is looking forward to putting the past behind him and moving on with his life. He is hoping to be able to rekindle the relationship he once had with his son and three daughters.
Amogan and another man were charged on March 12, 1997 for the murder of Ramcoomar Ramoutar which occurred on February 22, 1997. They were committed to stand trial on July 16, 1999 and an indictment was filed on September 19, 2000. Their first trial began on October 8, 2001 but was aborted on October 9, 2001.

The second trial was held between March 18 to May 29, 2003 and Amogan and another man were found guilty and were sentence by Justice Prakash Moosai to suffer death by hanging. The notes of evidence became available on April 27, 2006 and the men successfully appealed the conviction and sentence.

A retrial was ordered on December 15, 2006 and the matter was placed on a Cause List hearing for February 12, 2007.
Their attorneys filed an application seeking to have the indictments quashed on the basis of delay.

POLICE yesterday shot and killed a murder suspect in Couva.
The suspect, who was yet to be identified last night, was pronounced dead at hospital.
According to police, at around 2 p.m., officers of the Central Division Task Force, led by Senior Supt Johnny Abraham, Sgts Benjamin and Mohammed, and Cpl Radaykissoon, received information that a man was hiding in some bushes at Concerned Citizens Street.
Police responded and during a search of the area were fired upon by the suspect.
The officers returned fire and the suspect was hit several times.
The Express was told a police officer was also struck in the chest by a bullet, but he was unhurt since he was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
Police recovered a .380 pistol and several rounds of .38 ammunition in the suspect’s hand.
The suspect was taken to Couva District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Express was told the suspect was one of three men wanted in connection with the murder of Biche businessman Devanand Bholai earlier this year.
Bholai, 40, was killed by gunmen during a robbery at his home on March 16.
Bholai and his wife, Kemrajee Leela Jaikaran, were asleep when three gunmen entered their home.
They were tied up and gagged in their bedroom. The thieves demanded money, and Bholai was shot in the head.
