none drive / handle like a euro tho....that's one why we went with the focus over the cerato / elantra....I could live without power seats, backup camera etc The focus and jetta just feel solid....and well the focus price is really good too

well, truth be told.... can't really beat a euro for handling..... unless you going in for the high end japanese marques wearing american/euro market attire (toyota/lexus, nissan/infinity). Only focus I drove was the ST and it was really an exciting drive, interior was a bit meh tho.

Jetta/Passat I also drove and is a solid ride and good value in the euro market! Of course we know where VW values go in a couple years time and sharing DNA with Audi makes it a good offering IMO.

In my conclusion on adding to this thread, I will leave to op to consider a few points:
- disposable budget
- insurance coverage cost (assuming its full comprehensive)
- parts (though these days its better of flying in your own as I do)
- service (i do periodic service with the dealerships to keep my warranty intact, otherwise i do my self at our shop)
- An important factor to consider is the usage of the vehicle: daily driver or not, so as to ascertain mtc cost on say.... quarterly intervals.
- what you expect in terms of comfort/ergonomics for price paid
- and last but not least the LOL factor as in, u see meh rolling in meh audi/passat/cerato/tiida/b13 dey! :) I orn...

Hope OP at least considers my input and the input of others and makes a thought out informed decision..

Beleive me bro I am considering all the cogent advice and disregarding some of the earlier nonsense. Honestly my budget is no more than 220, 000.00, it will be a daily driver and id prefer super gas. I do think resale value is a consideration in my final analysis. So the feedback so far has helped a lot with my considerations. I agree with mg man and others that the feel and quality of a euro is bar none superior however the add on cost for that look and feel for a blue collar dude is a real consideration. I looking for a decent looking vehicle with max reliability and some decent resale in about 5 to 6 years...hence I narrowed it down to the jetta, cerato and with a eye glance at the ford focus and the mazda 3. But I will have to seriously go drive em to make a true assessment. As for korean vehicles ill be honest that I always had real reservation s. But from all I have read internationally they have escaped many of their quality failings.

I'll be honest tho, the new A4's ride (base model) is disappointing. They went with softer damping and the car feels wallowy and floaty. It still handles well but I'd be less willing to find its limits. The previous model was brilliant

10 years ago they said Korean cars were "game changers".

Yet models from 5 years ago park up and can't get parts.

Now in 2014 they still flying the "game changer" banner with little to prove for it, especially wrt long term durability.

Disposable short-term cars, definitely game changing deer.

AYE AYE!!! Watch it hoss!!!

I cannot speak as to the availability of parts/price in Trini, but I have a 2006 Sonata with the 3.3 v6 and I just crossed the 126K mile mark.

Regular oil changes, only maintenance is what you would expect, brakes, rotors, plugs, and I just just changed all the struts/shocks, UCA, LCA, end links, bushings etc... did not need it, I did it just because of the mileage... and I high speed stability test regularly.

The only one I can really comment on, is the elantra, drove one last year in the US. Rented it and had it for a week. Fairly comfortable ride a little underdamped in the suspension. Roomy inside, nice features (may be different here). Absolutely no steering feedback on the very very soft steering. A little get up and go between 2000-3000 RPM and then falls flat on its face.

My opinion is a little biased because of the grocery getter I drive every day.

CBH SIR, the local Elantra has three modes for the electric steering assist. I found sport mode to be a decent compromise between feedback and assist...to date most of these new EPS systems have vague feel (the R50 MINI was decent but only until the pump died)
It's got tons of nifty features including cooling yer bum....but I agree on the damping, which is pretty much the same for everything in that range from Japan or Korea....but again, those of us who like lots of damping and controlled roll will find this an issue....average Joe Driver will only notice the smooth ride...I'd lie if I didn't say I was pleasantly surprised at the Elantra's handling...I was expecting a wallowy feel but it's a lot better than I was expecting

as far as looks go, I'd say VW hit the mark with the new Jetta. Its pretty nice looking yet still has that conservative look about it...one that I think wont look stale after a few years
The cerato is pretty nice too. Kia is just on the ball with appealing designs these days.

^^^^^^^ some ppl not willing to switch to premium gas tho. That may be a shortcoming, depending on the buyer.

How much more tho? Unless the car runnin premium has significantly better consumption, it still gonna be more costly to run

Well i mean if he whole package is better.
Euro fit and finish, more fyahz and better handling and costs me 200 extra a month in gas well personally i wont mind.
Of course i know im in the minority wrt average car buyers
