81 Chevy pickup, help!

Postby D-Dawg » September 22nd, 2014, 9:27 pm

Hey tuners, I have an 81 Chevy C10 pickup. Trouble is, it's in pieces. Want to know if there's anyone who can mount it up. Already have all the necessary parts, and there's not much to do. Just to do up some minor wiring, interior, minor engine work (radiator and radiator fans etc...) and some of the smaller body parts. Van also has a CNG kit that would need to mount back up. I can't do the remaining stuff myself because of time/lack of experience lol. Wanna know if there's anyone who has experience working with american vehicles and can mount it up and get it to a drive-able state for a reasonable price?

As promised, pics of the van in it's current condition. Already have all the parts for it, it's just to put them on. Engine has been started and is running. Electrical radiator fan has to be wired up and installed and current radiator fan has to be removed. Lights has to go on, interior, hood, windshield, rear window, side windows, door mirrors, door locks and CNG (not top priority atm) and some other minor things. I managed to put on the tailgate and rear bumper with the help of my pops but he's not in a condition where he could help me these days. And being inexperienced, I can't do the rest myself and I don't have the time as of recently as well. I just need it up and running to the point to get it re-inspected and back on the road (so it can be transferred) then it's back to project mode. I don't wanna invest and start building it to how I want it unless it's transferred to me. Hence the need to just get it mounted up lol. Any advice?

Any garage can mount it up for you...why not do it yourself?!

Lack of experience, time. The basic stuff I could do, like bolting on something, but stuff like wiring and putting on the windshield and other glass etc..., those skills not exactly in my resume lol. Plus is to get the van and allll the parts to a garage that willing to do it on a student budget :/

if you said you got it starting/ running that your main part completed. all the body parts assembly are minor. any garage could do that for you, im sure you can do the most yourself, just take it a step at a time. you could just pay to have them install the glass properly for you if your afraid to tackle that part. once it drive-able and mechanically sound you could get it transferred etc.
try to get that done first before you invest any more time and money. even if you cant get it road worthy, you could get a license officer to do a site visit. and there are other ways.........you know how license office works lol

Yea you're right man. The glass and wiring I'll hadda get properly installed but the other stuff, I could try ah ting when my semester over. But yea, thaz ultimately the plan, once I get it transferred on my name, then I would start the project I have in mind. And yeaa that is verry truee lol.

hey man, most of the work on this van done here, you can pm the windshield company right here on tuner and get them to come home by you and reinstall the windscreens, if u go the V8 and old school thread in the car park there are a lot of V mechs and im sure one of those guys can put u on to an electrician who will have some knowledge about your truck, as far as I can see, if u have the engine starting, you have done well, so search the interwebs for some solutions and tackle one at a time.......

advice from a well respected mech and builder
