Local Sorrel ~ The Herbal Benefits of Sorrel

Sorrel, made from the Sepals, of the Sorrel Flower. Similar in taste to Hibiscus Tea

Sorrel Flowers are harvested around November and December

Sorrel is used for reducing sudden and ongoing pain and swelling (inflammation) of the Nasal Passages and Respiratory Tract, for treating Bacterial Infections along with conventional medicines, and for Increasing Urine Flow (as a diuretic).

Sorrel is also an ingredient in the Herbal Cancer Treatment Essiac.

Sorrel has been proven to reduce the risk of Heart Disease by significantly Reducing Elevated Cholesterol and Triglyceride Levels, as it helps to prevent the Clogging of Arteries.

Drinking tea made from sorrel for Blood Pressure reduction, especially in patients suffering from type-2 Diabetes.

Sorrel leaves are dried and used for the treatment of ringworm, itchy skin, and seasonal fevers

Drinking 2-3 cups of Sorrel Tea everyday helps in lowering the Blood Pressure considerably

Sorrel tea is a natural cure for kidney stones and jaundice

It is a natural laxative that helps in treating problems like constipation

Sorrel leaf juice is applied topically for the treatment of ulcers, boils, and malignant tumors

Sorrel is also a good natural treatment for dry and damaged hair. It is widely used in commercial hair care products for this very reason.

Sorrel can also help control balding when applied regularly to bald patches.
Therefore, it is also considered a good cure for mild hair loss.

It also has benefits as a diuretic and a weight loss aid when taken daily.

Prevent Eye Problems

Side Effects of Sorrel

Although sorrel has a number of health benefits, it is also important to understand its risks on health. One of the biggest hazards of sorrel is that it can lead to death when eaten in large quantities, because of its high oxalic acid content. Some of its other side effects include:

Kidney stones
Stomach pain
Diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting
Skin rash
Skin irritation
Muscle spasms
Dizziness
Liver disease

Local Miss World TnT 2014 ~ Sarah Jane Waddell

Sarah Jane Waddell Miss World Beauty with a purpose Video of her work with Sofia House in Trinidad

Trinidad and Tobago! I am very proud to at long last share with you my Beauty With a Purpose video-- was having some technical difficulties earlier! Please like and share to the WORLD!!!

Special thanks to Ravin Ramkissoon of Commotion Studios and Ernie Ross and the Project Happiness team at ReThink for helping put together an amazing video and project!

At our BWP interviews, Julia Morely said something that struck me as very insightful. When one delegate made reference to being a "third world country", she said "There is no such thing as first, or second, or third world. There is only one world, with all of us in it together."

Similarly, we in Trinidad and Tobago are one society and one people. There is no we and they or theirs and mine, only US and OURS. When the youth of our society fall through the cracks, we are failing OUR OWN children.

Unfortunately we cannot protect all of our children from every harm in this world. But we CAN foster them, teach them, and empower them; so that they can take care of themselves when faced with adversity. We have heard the stories and read the headlines... Our youth represent our future and we no longer have the luxury of standing by while the situation worsens.

I gave what I could give of myself to these girls. They received lessons on gratitude, empathy, managing your emotions and actions. They were shown the importance of developing healthy relationships and making the right decisions. Every step of the way, we reassured them that their happiness is independent from their circumstances-- that they have control over their attitude and how they react to situations.

At first it was a bit difficult to make a connection. But who could blame them? They had been let down many times before, often by those who should be protecting them.

Brick by brick, I saw the walls come down. Trust gradually entered the room, and we welcomed it like an old friend. I saw not only a shift in their behavior towards me, but also to each other. On my last day, the changes could not be more evident. I saw real changes in how they interacted, carried themselves, and how they dealt with situations. I consider the ripple effect of these teachings at this point in their lives and I am so touched.

Little changes CAN make a difference. One could say I see myself as their big sister-- but more importantly, Beauty With A Purpose has allowed me to become an advocate for them. I see now that by tapping into my own strength of advocacy, I can create meaningful change-- especially for those with no voice. Little changes in our actions CAN make a significant difference in our society, especially when we all make the choice to get involved collectively.

We are ONE PEOPLE -- we can't go on with this mentality of, "well as long as I'm okay, then it's okay". Look at how much a few Miss World T&T ladies and I were able to accomplish with so little. We all have a responsibility to "parent" the children of our nation. What will YOU do to help our future generations flourish? We must accept responsibility and start to move towards change... there is no action too small!

Trip, is promotion part of your job, or are you just a patriot who knows where to find stuff? Either way, keep up the good work; this is easily one of the best threads in this section 8-) .

Local Chocolate ~ Brasso Seco Chocolate Company

The young people of Brasso Seco who launched their Brasso Seco Chocolate Company in Lopinot

They have been trained by Suneaters Organics to make chocolate from beans that they are picking and the results are wonderful

Besides the joy of sharing the taste of Trinidad Cacao with locals, it was also great to see the information being learned about this crop that has been sent all over the world for processing but is so rarely discussed and savored here at home
