AG’s alleged witness tampering

Please post a real news source like the Newsday or something.

In any event my blood never take ramlogan anyways. He always struck me as those brahims who would never do anything for anybody in society except himself. I know quite a number of people like him in this country. He strikes me as those upper caste people who don't support lower caste I also think he is a failure of an AG aswell. He look like a man who there to just help himself alone.

In other words he is no different from all the PNM AGs thus far.

I done with voting until people serious about electing a party like the UKIP in this country.

Griffith duped into approaching West but Security head ready to testify

National Security Minister Gary Griffith confided in a Cabinet colleague on Thursday he was approached by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan to use his friendship with Police Complaints Authority head David West in order to confirm "if West recalled the documents" in the Section 34 defamation lawsuit against Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley.

However, Griffith appears ready to provide statements in the ongoing police probe in the allegations against the AG to clear his name in the matter. The colleague yesterday said Griffith had informed them he was not aware of exactly what the “documents” in questions were but was just delivering a message on Ramlogan's behalf when he approached West in the matter. It was only later on that Griffith in fact realised it was the Section 34 lawsuit.

"It was only when he (Griffith) contacted West that he was told to leave that situation alone because the matter was before the court that he realised what was going on," Griffith;s colleague told the T&T Guardian yesterday.

Ramlogan had initially denied media reports he had contacted West before his appointment to the PCA, asking him to withdraw his witness statement in a defamation lawsuit relating to the failed extradition involving Section 34 applicants Steve Ferguson and Ishwar Galbaransingh in exchange for him being selected for the PCA job. But West on Thursday refuted Ramlogan's denial, saying his recollection of the events were "diametrically opposed" to the Attorney General's.

West was also reported to have delivered a statement to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) but the T&T Guardian has learnt that while a detailed, signed report was delivered to the acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams, nothing has been delivered to the DPP yet.

The T&T Guardian was informed that the timeline of the alleged discussions between Ramlogan, Griffith and West was the crux of the growing discord between the three, as Griffith has informed his colleagues that he was only passing a message on to West.

Cabinet interference

When contacted yesterday, Griffith said he was not speaking on the matter. "I have to be careful because the matter is before the court but I can say that I am in no way implicated," Griffith said. The T&T Guardian also learned that Griffith was refusing to back down or be cowed by his Cabinet colleagues. When asked how that was affecting the climate inside Cabinet, the insider said: "Griffith not too worried about that.

"He does not intend to retract or back down or not make that witness statement because his Cabinet colleagues are trying to get him to back down." Griffith, the T&T Guardian learned, was "willing and ready to testify." Meanwhile, West himself yesterday said he hoped the matter would be investigated swiftly and said he stood ready to play his part in the investigation.

West, who was in Tobago for a meeting in Plymouth, also dispelled the AG’s claim that there was a political conspiracy against him saying: “I don’t agree with his words. I gave a statement to the commissioner of Police and that statement will be investigated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.”

Step Down

Now Even as calls continued for Attorney General Anand Ramlogan to resign, the AG remained in the position yesterday. But the question remains if he will be fired or resign shortly as Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is expected to make an announcement tomor‐row. The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago yesterday joined the chorus of calls for Ramlogan to resign. The association, which has a tendency to remain reticent with respect to controversy, issued a brief, one-page release, following a meeting with its executive yesterday morning. The meeting was chaired by LATT vice-chairman Gerry Brooks. The Sunday Express understands LATT president Seenath Jairam is in Guyana. The release stated: “It is the view of LATT that the police investigation into the conduct of the Attorney General has the ability to adversely affect and undermine the public perception of and confidence in the Office of the Attorney General. In the circumstances, it is LATT’s considered view that Mr Ramlogan SC must forthwith step down as Attorney General.” The probe by police officers arise out of allegations made by director of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) David West that Ramlogan requested that he with‐draw a witness statement in a defamation matter involving Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley and Ramlogan. West, on Thursday, made an official police complaint and sub‐mitted a signed statement of his claims. Shortly after the statement was delivered to police, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service issued a media statement, announcing the commencement of a probe. Ramlogan, who is titular head of the Bar, then issued his own media release, calling on the investigation to commence with haste, repeating the allegations against him are untrue. LATT, in its release, also expressed concern over the allegations. “The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) notes with grave concern the recent allega-tions by Mr David West, director of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), and the launch of a criminal investigation by the Commissioner of Police (Ag) Mr Stephen Williams. This investigation concerns the allegations of an attempt to pervert the course of justice made against the Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago. “To prevent erosion of confidence in the Office of the Attorney General, LATT urges that the investigations which have been embarked upon by the Police Service of Trinidad and Tobago be conducted thoroughly and expeditiously, in the interest of the national community. “Once the investigations are completed, any and all appropriate legal steps should be taken there- after with due expediency. LATT makes no comment on the innocence or guilt of the Attorney General and awaits the outcome of the police investigation.” This is not the first time that LATT has called on an AG to demit office. On July 1, 2011, then AG John Jeremie was severely censured by members of the Bar who, at a specially convened meeting at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain, considered and passed a no-confidence motion against him. The motion was proposed by head of the Criminal Bar Association attorney Desmond Allum SC (now deceased). The controversy arose following reports of correspondence between Jeremie and former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geof‐frey Henderson. When the motion was proposed, it was supported by then Congress of the People (COP) deputy leader Prakash Ramadhar and then political leader of COP Winston Dookeran, both of whom had called on Jeremie to resign. Following the motion, Jeremie offered his resignation to then prime minister Patrick Manning. Manning refused to accept the offer by Jeremie and expressed his full confidence in Jeremie to perform his duties. Manning had also said he was satisfied the resolution was “politically motivated”. In 1983, then AG Russell Martin‐eau SC tendered his resignation to then prime minister George Chambers, who refused to accept it after LATT passed a similar resolution. Ramlogan seeks votes Since the witness-tampering allegations were reported exclusively in last week’s Sunday Express, Ramlogan has been sending out WhatsApp messages with links to the Trinidad Express website poll question, which asked: “Are you sat- isfied with the performance of Attorney General Anand Ramlogan? Up to yesterday afternoon, sev-eral individuals, inclusive of journalists, had received the request to vote. In total, 2,307 votes were cast, with 1,157 voting “Yes”, and 1,150 voting “No”.

So all PM Kamla has to do is reject his resignation and all talk done?!!!......cause das the precedents that the PNM set.

In both cases both PNM AGs OFFERED their resignations. It was the correct and honorable thing to do rather than bring the office into disrepute.

Anand knows NOTHING about honour. :D 8-) :D

Furthermore, questions arose about their ETHICAL behaviour. While not condoning their ALLEGED ETHICAL behaviour, we are talking about CRIMINAL behaviour on the part of Anand
