NAKED GIRLS IN VAN

POLICEMEN recoiled in shock and horror yesterday when they found two intoxicated sisters, aged nine and 14, naked and lying on the seats inside a heavily tinted Nissan Navara van. The 39-yearold driver, found clad only in his underwear and a jersey, was immediately arrested and remains in custody.

According to reports, at about 10.50 am, a party of officers led by Ag Sgt Ramlogan and including PC Leelum and others were on an exercise when they observed a heavily tinted black Nissan Navara van parked in an abandoned Caroni Ltd cane field near Cedar Hill Estate in Barrackpore. Officers instructed the driver to come out of the vehicle and submit to a search, but he instead started the engine and drove off at high speed. Officers gave chase and the van was intercepted and forced to stop a short distance away. The officers quickly surrounded the van. What they saw inside made them recoil in horror and revulsion. They saw a 14-yearold girl, naked and lying on her back on the front passenger seat which was reclined. On the backseat, also naked and lying down, was a nine-year-old girl. Both children appeared disoriented.

Officers found quantities of alcohol inside the vehicle, leading them to theorise that the man made the girls drink in order to impair their senses and make them easy victims.

Police sources told Newsday the sisters were unaware of their surroundings when they were rescued.

The 39-year-old man who is from Princes Town, was clad in a boxer shorts and jersey. He was arrested and taken to the Princes Town police station.

The children were allowed to put back on their clothing which was found in the van and taken to the Barrackpore Police Station where a Woman Police officer from the Child Protection Unit (CPU) spoke to them and later accompanied them to the District Medical Officer.

A medical exam, Newsday was told, later revealed the nine-yearold was sexually assaulted and there appeared to be a ‘hickey’ (love bite) on her neck.

Medical tests on the 14-year-old girl found no sign of sexual activity.

The teen later told police the man had carried out indecent acts including grievous sexual assault on her and at the time the police intervened, he was about to rape her.

The suspect, who is a technician, is said to be a long time friend of the children’s father and reports revealed the children were sent by their mother to purchase some items in the Princes Town area when the man, who was driving his van near to where the sisters were walking, called them to the vehicle and told them, “let’s go for a ride.” Knowing he was a friend of their father, the girls got into the van.

Police sources said the children’s mother, when contacted began to sob on being told by police of the incident. She told officers she trusted the man even with her own life and never expected him to prey on her daughters. She said she read stories in the newspapers about children being sexually assaulted, but never thought for a moment, it would hit home as she considered herself to be an extremely cautious parent when it comes to her children. Yesterday, head of Police Southern Division Snr Supt Irwin Hackshaw commended the officers for their keen sense of observation which allowed for a predator to be held and two children being rescued.

He added that any sexual act committed against children is extremely serious and he and his officers have adopted a zero tolerance against this and all kinds of crime.

Snr Supt Hackshaw advised parents to be especially careful who they allow their children to be with.

Police said criminal charges are expected to follow when the investigation is completed. Recently, officials from the Children’s Authority stated that within a nine-month period, over 1,000 cases of sexual assault on children were reported.

Officials spoke of sex predators on the loose and pointed to low detection rates of this and other crimes against the nation’s innocent.

2. He should be made to plant a few acres of land with long term and short term crops by himself for a period of 10 years with the proceeds going towards the girls future.

3. After that period he should be tenderized thoroughly again.

4 . Repeat of no.2

5. When he's no longer able to work the land send him to jail to meet bubba.

A 36 year old Princes Town man was detained by police on Tuesday after two young girls were rescued from his vehicle, where they were found naked and intoxicated.

The suspect remained in police custody overnight as investigators gather reports from medical and social welfare personnel on the girls.

The girls, aged nine and 14, were found by police officers in the man’s Nissan Navara in an abandoned canefield at Cedar Hill Estate in Barrackpore. Police said that at around 10.50 a.m. they were on exercise duty when they spotted the vehicle and went to investigate.

However, the suspect drove off before he was confronted by police.

After a short chase, police officers intercepted the vehicle.

Police officers allegedly found the suspect was wearing only his underwear and tee shirt.

Bottles of alcohol were discovered in the van, police said.

The two girls were found in the nude, and appeared to be intoxicated, police said.

One of the girls was found on the front seat which had been reclined, and the other lying naked on the back seat.

Police said the girls were medically examined by a district medical officer, and there were no indications that the girls had been sexually assaulted.

The children’s mother told police that the suspect was a friend of the family.

The mother said she sent the children on an errand in Princes Town where they were allegedly lured into his vehicle.

In a shocking move, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has announced his support of the Inter Religious Organization’s (IRO) stance that child marriages should not be removed from the law books of the country.

While Deyalsingh claims he does not support child marriages himself, he says he, “stands with the IRO for having his back on the whole abortion thing.”

As an act of reciprocal support, the minster has announced that he will sell the vacant Couva Children’s Hospital to the IRO for their personal use. The Late O’Clock News contacted IRO leader Harrypersad Maharaj who confirmed the sale of the hospital to the IRO, as well as his plans to convert the building into a ‘couples only nightclub’.

“I am pleased to announce that the IRO has scored a victory for lovers of mature children everywhere. The Couva Children’s Hospital has been a mark of the corruption of this country, but now with the IRO’s vision, it will be turned into a place where people can have a safe space with their child brides. I am pleased to announce the creation of Trinidad’s first Paedophile friendly nightclub, ‘The Naughty Corner’”.

When questioned about the structural integrity of the building, as well as its standards not meeting OSHA requirements, and its current dilapidated state, Mr. Maharaj said there is no cause for concern.

“The Naughty Corner is a place where men of highest integrity gather, and the building would reflect the level of our moral and spiritual values.”

The IRO has said the Naughty Corner should open sometime ‘after 12’ . Joseph Harris: Child marriage is like legalised statutory rape

Archbishop of Port-of-Spain, Joseph Harris says forcing a 13-year-old to be married is legalised statutory rape.

He made the comment in a live Facebook Question and Answer session today, in response to a question on the controversial child marriage topic.

The Archbishop said a 13-year-old does not understand what marriage is about and should not be forced.

“Culture is not something that is perfect, cultures are never perfect, you have good customs and bad customs and there are those customs you have to repudiate and those you have to exalt and make better.

"From where I sit, intercourse and childbirth at 12, 13, 14, is not good so from a purely physical point of view that should not be allowed and if it is part of the culture it has to be evangelised and brought to a spot in which relationships and marriage relationships are truly understood and a 13-year-old, a 12-year-old does not understand what marriage is about.

"Legalised statutory rape"

"A 13-year-old is a child, a 13-year-old should not be forced into that type of relationship, that is legalised statutory rape,” he said.

Asked about Brother Harrypersad Maharaj’s claim that there was a unanimous decision by 17 members of the IRO that there should be no change to the Marriage Acts, the Archbishop said neither he nor his representative Father Sirju was at the meeting.

“We weren’t called afterward nor did we call to say we agreed to the position allegedly taken by the IRO. It was wrong to say it was unanimous because the Catholic church does not agree with that position.”

IRO head a "dishonest man"

Dean Knolly Clarke, the Anglican’s Church representative on the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), said Brother Harrypersad Maharaj is a dishonest man.

“It wasn’t unanimous at all, we cannot agree to that. According to our regulations, we cannot under the civil marriage act marry children under 18,” he said, explaining that Christian marriages fall under the civic act.

“This IRO man is pretending , we do not belong to it and we do not agree to that. I was not even at the meeting. I have found a lot of things that I don’t like and I am challenging it, I have not gone to a meeting in about four months,” said Clarke.

He said he is one hundred percent behind a change in the marriage laws noting that even in India, there are calls for an end to child marriages.
