Yeah that's the thing, it's not the same as a fast food place. In KFC in the US the service is more or less the same as what you get here. Same with Mc Donald's or any other fast food joint. Only time the service starts to get better is when tipping is done.

Personally I don't see the need to tip someone when they make a latte for me. Maybe if it was a drink with some crazy combination like people put before I would. Definitely not just for writing my name on the cup.

Will you buy this $42 Starbucks drink?
...absolutely says Prestige Holdings

IS the biggest size Starbucks caramel macchiato with steamed milk, vanilla syrup and espresso worth $42? Absolutely, says Prestige Holdings chairman Christian Mouttet.

Prestige operates the KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway and TGI Friday's restaurant brands in the country and yesterday launched the first Starbucks coffeehouse franchise at the SouthPark entertainment complex in San Fernando. Started in Seattle in the United States with one outlet at a market in 1971, Starbucks today has more than 24,000 branches around the world.

Starbucks in Trinidad offers more than 25 drinks, including hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate beverages as well as caffeine-free juice drinks like blended raspberry blackcurrant and mango passion fruit. Servings come in three sizes-tall, grande and venti. Prices range from full-brewed tea that starts at $10 for a tall cup to a $14 espresso all the way to venti-sized vanilla lattes and macchiatos at $40 and $42. As for Starbucks price point-which is higher than its competitor Rituals which has more than 45 branches in Trinidad and Tobago-Mouttet is confident in the product and what he called the “Starbucks experience”.

He told the Express following the ribbon-cutting ceremony and coffee sampling for VIP guests that Starbucks was offering a premium coupled with an unmatched level of customer service. Mouttet was confident that customers would appreciate Starbucks as a place to meet, unwind and enjoy an excellent product. He noted that customers also had the option of selecting smaller-sized coffee options instead of the largest ones at the highest price point.

More branches

Starbucks in South has 35 employees. Prestige will open its next Starbucks coffeehouse at MovieTowne in Port of Spain at the end of October followed by another in Chaguanas, chief executive Charles Pashley told reporters at the event. Neither he nor Mouttet would divulge the cost of setting up shop in Trinidad but Mouttet said there were plans for more Starbucks outlets in the country and the franchise was a long-term, and “over time a significant investment”. Mouttet was confident in the economy and the new franchise even against the backdrop of an ongoing shortage of United States dollars which companies like his depend on to import some products and equipment for business operations. As for already established competition from one coffeehouse chain and other single shops, Mouttet and Pashley agreed that coffee drinking was a growing market and there was room for a new player in the local market like Starbucks.

so wtf they getting a salary for?

me, i grew up with service as part of the product.
i would gladly take screw face if it would cost less, but i more of a chief and hongwing kinda guy... plus i does get a kinda satanic vibe from the name and logo of starbucks. and the local imitation rituals, aint that far off neither.

One branch, no need to advertise. Word of mouth generates enough hype. Advertise of is a cost that must me spread across maximum potential customers. Bet you they are full already

advertising costs....for a global company...haha. this could be just online ads on youtube or websites, or simple paper ads.

You do know how franchises work right ? And costs are appropriated by region/franchisee. Not because something is multinational means they will be wasteful with budgets. In service industries marketing is ramped up over time because first impressions can be damaged if initial demand is overwhelming. Launch soft and then ramp up. But then again what do I know eh?

A normal latte is normally like 3.29 or so as far as I remember. Which is around the $23. These are not the same prices as rituals tho. Grande latte is 23vs30

There are four Starbucks’ locations planned for Trinidad — SouthPark (San Fernando); MovieTowne (Port of Spain); Chaguanas; and a fourth unnamed location.

The MovieTowne-Port of Spain location is scheduled to open in October 2016.
