Called it and the woman was very helpful....I got it activated within 20 Minutes.....she actually called me back to tell me it was activated and did a lil check to make sure everything was in order....so very good customer sevice.

Oh yeah and she was again very surprised when I told her 96% and she kept on asking who did the install....told her I did it..and she was like really?... :?

It turned out to be very easy to Install.....could be completed in less than an hour....the drilling to Install the mast is prob the most difficult but once u have the tools it would be easy.....

The instructions in the kit is very good and well laid out for self installation.
These technicians make easy money on these installs.

Gonna evaluate it for the 6 days and see if it is really worth it but$200 for the kit isn't bad.....

Wonder though what the prices of the new hd ones gonna be ...

Ah glad u get tru. But how can you say
The instructions in the kit is very good and well laid out for self installation.
when the instruction in the book dont say set the transponder to 26 and to use the other coixal outlet and line up the red line by the 49* elevation when there is no red line. anyhow ah glad you get activated in 20 min on a weekend when they told me 48 hours but anyhow my decoder box was bad.

I understand that the direction is exactly 255 degrees (West by South azimuth) and 49 degrees elevation from Trinidad to their satellite.

Is this the decoder that was sold with the prepaid plan?

I believe you're right kidz. It should be 268 degrees magnetic/255 degrees true North. The difference in Trinidad is almost exactly 13 degrees between magnetic and true North. I've seen a lot of dishes pointed straight to the West. I'm guessing those dishes aren't getting the best possible signal.

i've seen some pointing straight up as well. The instructions were ok but they left out things that will frustrate a person as well as after the frustration they will call a tech to install at a cost. I think they do it just to make money. An the fact that my box was bad, kids dish was bad, my dish missing the red line, the whole transponder 26 and other small issues make me think twice about recommending this to other people. I think the full service rite now is free installation, i will recommend that.

I'm no expert but I believe that the problems are do to the entire Caribbean yachting service being handled by DTV in Trinidad. The same Latin American recievers are used throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean. English, French and Dutch manuals had to be written in addition to the Spanish and Portuguese manuals for at least three different recievers. Added to the fact that there are three different satellites used depending on where you are and the general azimuth and angle are different for every location.

I believe that it's just a nightmare to do the instructions right. I also believe that if a user doesn't know about satellite skyview and transmission frequency they will need to do a couple of days reading to be able to pick up any mistakes in the manuals.

so i see a new HD direct tv prepaid system selling with the same channels but some of them in HD. Persons with the older system would they get the HD channels as well? is there an upgrade system or do they have to dump the old system and spend $399 for the new HD system?

I have the SD kit for I think 2 years now, works fine when I have it up.I only top up every 6 months or so. Using it as a back up option for when internet or cable goes out, takes 2 days or so after paying to be online.
Went to Direct Tv Puerto Rico page they have prepaid combo kits with two box's and three viewing packages . Asked Direct Tv here still no reply. But they said SD would be phased out , lol and was pushing all them old SD kits out last month for $200.
They best offer an upgrade to HD box option.
When I got it back then , I asked if it could be converted to billing they said a new system would need to be installed. So I said its the same equipment being used anyway . the card would be the only thing to need changing. I've see the same SD box's on billing customers location. Makes me think those kits are seconds equipment. As mine the remote could only work like 3 feet from box , till I drilled a small hold on the Ir sensor cover on front panel now it works fine

71 because you still get the SD version so you have some channels with an SD and HD version no new channels

Maybe that's why it's so difficult to find the channel list.

bought a new hd kit, the manual doesn't match the system. Got a 'power not detected' error when I'm searching for signal. Can anyone help please. And does anyone know if the rain affects the signal?

You actually just have to get a new HD box for $199. Not a whole new kit.

Rain does affect satellite signals.

How much is the HD kit now?
