WTK: Electrician to reprogram Instrument Cluster

Postby SupraChild » January 17th, 2017, 10:23 am

Sup Tuners,

I ordered this instrument cluster from Australia a few weeks ago for my 08' Corolla XLi. I ordered this one cause the mileage almost exactly matched my current one (just over a bit), but the main reason was because the stock XLi cluster is so ugly and boring, plus I wanted one with a tach.

Everything works...but, shortly after turning the ignition, the ABS light comes on, and stays on, and this disables the speedometer from displaying the vehicle speed. This is because the XLi does not come stock with ABS. I tested it in a GLi (with ABS) and everything works fine. I even tested the stock one from the GLi and this works fine in my vehicle...
Unfortunately, this particular Simens model was designed to be fully functional only on Toyota vehicles with an ABS system...such as the GLi, LX, etc. So, I'm selling it, or willing to trade for another one (all other model clusters including the GLi and LX will work on my car as those and most other clusters were designed to work with/without ABS systems)...unless I can get it working.

If anyone however knows of an auto electrician that may be knowledgeable enough to reprogram the cluster to work without the ABS...that'd be swell. Or maybe a reprogram of the ECU to trick the cluster into thinking it has an ABS signal...I duno... :?

I tried checking the cpu to instrument panel voltages from a GLi and comparing them to the XLi. I found only one voltage difference, where the GLi had a 12V output, and my car didn't. Disconnecting that wire did not resolve my problem, but caused the car to remain on 1st gear...so it was promptly reconnected... :!:

Any advice/suggestions would be really, and greatly appreciated.

Peace and Blessings,
Stephen
