Usain Bolt loses one Olympic gold medal as Nesta Carter tests positive

Usain Bolt will have to hand back one of his nine Olympic gold medals after Jamaican team-mate Nesta Carter tested positive for a banned substance.

Carter was part of the Jamaican quartet that won the 4x100m in Beijing in 2008.

His was one of 454 selected doping samples retested by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last year, and has been found to contain the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

Bolt, 30, completed an unprecedented 'triple triple' in Rio last summer.

He won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay to add to his successes in the same events in 2008 and 2012.

Carter, 31, was also part of the squad that won the event in London five years ago and helped Jamaica to win the World Championship in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Trinidad & Tobago have now been awarded the 2008 relay gold, with Japan upgraded to silver and Brazil given bronze.

Probably not...the head starts allowed on baton change overs results in the 4x100 being run in 36-38+ seconds for the top teams.

Bolt at his 9.58WR speed would run 400m in 38.32 seconds and his best time in the 400m (he used to run in regularly) is 45+secs.

To the tunts who are saying it is a "default" gold medal, UDFR! That is the problem with Trinidadians, they never know when to simply appreciate and celebrate their own people's achievements. If Nesta Carter cheated as part of a relay team, then the entire team has to be disqualified. While this may not seem fair, that is just how the rules work, and actually there were several reports of the Jamaican authorities being lax on their monitoring and testing of athletes.

They are testing his samples from other championship events. It would be really funny if TT move from 4th to third to second to first for the 2012 olympic relays. But on a real, J'CA has a serious doping problem. Bolt is a generational talent, he not on chuck but the people who surround him certainly are or at least they were at some point

Default gold no matter which way you try to spin it. Didn't come first > didn't deserve/earn it. Of course it's a fine line but history will show them as being awarded a gold not winning it.

But this retrospective ban thing will firetruck alotta athletes though.

Seriously? The reason that Jamaica "won" is because Carter used PED's. What the almighty fack about that you don't/won't understand? Carl Lewis should not have been the gold medallist when Ben Johnson was "roided up to the gills in 1988? There is a reason that samples are kept for up to 10 years after a competition. and this is precisely why.
