Car thieves losing interest in Tiida?

Car thieves moving from Tiida to Hilux—cops

Published: Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Car thieves are beginning to move away from Nissan vehicles— primarily Tiidas and B series cars—and are stealing more Toyota Hilux pick ups.

Head of the Stolen Vehicles Squad, Sgt Christopher Swamber, said between January 1 to March 21 last year, three Hilux vehicles were stolen but for the same period this year, six were taken.

He said this is because of the ease with which the cab of a Hilux can be retrofitted on other vehicles making it almost undetectable.

Swamber said thieves are removing the cab of the Hilux and attaching them to the bodies of foreign used vehicles with a different chassis number, then registering the new chassis with the stolen cab.

In the case of the Nissan Tiida, while in the aforementioned period last year 24 Tiidas were stolen, ten were stolen this year. There has also been a decrease in the number of robberies involving Tiidas from six last year to three this year.

However, thieves are still making off with older model Nissan vehicles such as the B12 and B13. Last year eight B12s and 12 B13 were stolen. So far this year, 11 B12 and 17 B13s have been reported stolen.

These cars remain in high demand in the underworld because they can be scrapped for spare parts.

Police said there is a slight increase in stolen vehicles from 142 last year to 150 this year.

I still find the car with the best anti-theft feature is peugeot. The anti-theft device is basically the fact that it is a peugeot.

Over time I have observed that when a pickup is stolen police officers frequently refer to the vehicle as "HILUX".
4x4 of all brands = HILUX.

Correct me if i'm wrong but, the statistics in the article are showing that more Tiidas than Hilux are still being stolen... so how is the hilux number 1 then (according to reports i'm hearing on the radio)?
