Never be fooled into thinking choosing a profession based on an accommodation pic. Sometimes it does say something about the facility tho.

This, plus the distance from anything or anyone else that you are actually working to make the money to sustain and enjoy.

It's a good short term decision to make money quickly for something else, but not really worth it for the long term.

Dudes..been here (going into my second week from tomorrow) offshore since 70's...and back then when I started as a roustabout (General labarour) salaries at a min was like $1800 ah week and now same roustabout after making ah two weeks take home is around $21.000 which is not bad for the sacrifice one have to make for been away from our family....so the industry has and is rapidly changing now is the time to get in and make the $$$$$$ quickly then get out and make a better life for you and family.

Offshore not for everyone especially if you a family man.
If you are a family man you must have an understanding family to back you up.
If ur single then go for it. You must have the belly for it.

As far as i'm concerned, i'm single.

Most of my family accustom to me not being around because of the length of time I spent studying and hours worked.

Worked shift last year, I prefer shift over usual 8-4.

Still getting some exposure and learning as I go along. Maybe by the end of this year we will see what takes place.

Depending on the position, it's more of a 28day rotation (especially if you're working outside Trinidad), and it's a minimum of 12hour work day. Most of the time it's 16hours minimum for me when I'm out on a rig.

Being away from your family for a day or two is very different from being away weeks at a time. Depending on where you are communication isn't always the easiest to come by, unless you're good with e-mail.

If you're new to it, a service company is the best place to start.

As much as I like offshore I don't want to stay there forever because very soon I'm looking to start a family so being offshore is out but at the same time I am not leaving unless I am sure that I have somewhere to go. The days are 12 hour shifts but it can go beyond that to 16 or even 20 according to what is being done for a 14/21day rotations in trinidad. It is a great place to gain experience but it has changed a lot over the years and it hasn't been getting better
