All work and no play.
Sport Minister Darryl Smith says he was not joyriding in Tobago and a $92,000 bill for a weekend visit last weekend was all work.
Smith said he and his team of 12 persons not only attended the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Sports Awards but they also did a number of things — such as tour the Dwight York Stadium, meet the youth council and the THA Assemblyman for Sport.
The minister also claimed he has no romantic relationship with an employee he was photographed with, stating that the leaking of the photograph and documents relating to the cost of the trip was all “mischief”.
The disclosure of the cost of the Sport Ministry’s Tobago trip originated on the blog page of journalist Sharmain Baboolal which went viral on social media yesterday.
Speaking with the Express by phone, Smith said he was not aware of the bill and it was the ministry’s permanent secretary who looks after these administrative matters....http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20170523 ... go-splurge
PM to Sports Minister: Report to me
...Rowley responds to $92,000 Tobago trip
SPORTS Minister Daryl Smith may think the $92,000 trip he took to Tobago is a “storm in a teacup” created by the media to sell advertising, but Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley thinks otherwise.
Rowley this afternoon issued a statement, advising the public that he has requested a full report from Smith on the recently concluded trip to Tobago by him, Ministry officials, and officials of the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago.
The trip was to attend the Tobago House of Assembly's Sports Awards held on May 20 at the Magdelena Grand Beach and Golf Resort...

PM picks cheapest flight
Friday, May 26 2017
MINDFUL of the controversies involving allegations of wasteful expenditure of public funds in a time of recession — by at least two members of his Cabinet — the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) yesterday made it clear in a press release that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s trip to Chile next week, is being done at the cheapest cost possible...
...The statement added the cost to fly with with Copa is $375,368, compared to $1,067,256 on American Airlines. “This is just one of many instances where the Prime Minister has demonstrated his commitment to be judicious with the public purse,” the statement added...
