Hope the minister is able to make a recovery, I could never understand why people would want to get into politics which is a high stress environment with known health issues.

From a political perspective I could see the PNM not pushing any decision to have the MP to resign and vacate his seat in a marginal constituency similar to Kamla and Anil. It’s a touchy situation for the UNC as well, especially when it comes to health, and agitating to create public pressure on the government to vacate a seat. They didn’t push on Manning and wisely so but given the marginal nature of La Horquetta, it may drive a different consideration.

Apart from a morale boost if the UNC can somehow win that seat in a by election it will have no impact in the parliament when it comes to passing legislation, the PNM will still have a majority but not have 2/3 or 3/5 majority. One the balance of everything it may be prudent to let things play out unless the worst happens to the MP

Don’t think either party wants to spend money on a by election that has no real material outcome either
