Police roadblock procedures

Postby Coppershot » October 7th, 2017, 7:31 pm

I was recently in a police roadblock. The office asked and received my drivers permit and insurance.
He then proceeded to write down stuff on a sheet of paper and return all my documents. And tells me its ok to drive off.

Is it normal to write down driver and insurance info in a roadblock. No ticket was issued. I just find it strange. In all my years, once you not in violation of anything, they just give you back your documents. What up with the writing up on a separate piece of paper. I have been in many roadblocks, first time im seeing this.

my understanding is that your info will be given to I.T workers of the ttps and entered into a database.....not sure of the legality of it tho.

Same happened to me at least twice a few years ago. The officer said they are supposed to keep a record of everyone they stopped. I assumed it had something to do with meeting quotas.

Just taking down info for their database.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Gave them all my info and so did my boss. They were very polite, understanding and cooperative.

Yeah it's a normal thing. If this is your first time though, then you probably don't fit the profile, cuz is years they doing that.

I personally have never been asked those kind of questions. I try to avoid police altogether and I'm in the protective service. Police always try to one up you, is like you already have a firearm, you won geezz man....

Had that questionnaire filled out already at a roadblock. Police were generally cool, until I started to laugh at some of the questions. One was if I had any gold teeth I think , he also asked about tattoos or scars. When he asked if I had any nicknames or aliases told him my gf calls me pookie and my sidechick calls me Markie.

There was one by Republic Bank on Trincity Central Road on Friday night. I does just send down all my glasses, exchange goodnight, etc.
He asked where I live, and which part(street). With slight sarcasm he said real people living there. I just told him that is the normal route most people from my area pass. We said goodnight and he let me through.

No documents or anything.

I have no problem with them doing their jobs. Actually I more or less welcome it. Random areas, random times.

Got stopped in 2 of these, first time was in Couva a full questionnaire was done asking height, weight, occupation, any tattoos or identifiable marks etc. Second time was two weeks ago in Chaguanas, it was shorter but they took my license and reg docs, i had to do a breathalyser (mind u this was after 8 on a week night... tired after work and class I nearly ask him who have time to drink?) but the officers was cool so everything took about 8 mins.

seems like none above ever had to make a report in a station because its the first set of information they take from you before you actually make the report. A complete profile sheet.
Think this was implemented in Gibbs time to boost the police database so its easier to narrow down suspects based on description. This usually happens in all stop and searches.

Every so often, 2 jeeploads show up on Orangefield Rd, stop about 10 cars, and I mean ONLY 10 or so, take whatever info etc, then disappear.

Dunno what kinda roadblock that is.

I got it today in San Fernando... weight, height, workplace, position, marital status etc. Weird but the officers were respectful.

Is this info going into some "Versadex" database?

Happened to me Friday night. The male officer was aggressive and impatient and the female officer was more cordial. The more relaxed and cooperative I was, she followed suit.

Versadex record management system (RMS) is a canadian based research tool that law enforcement use every day to look up persons, businesses, addresses etc. This system is useful for officer safety and should be used in call-taking and dispatching. RMS will display events such as hazards, stolen vehicles, missing persons, etc.

"Once a person comes to a station to make a report of an alleged offence, the officer who is receiving reports determines the type of crime and selects the appropriate paper form to enter details of the offence. There are
different forms for different types of offences. In many cases greater detail about the crime is entered in the Station Register, though many of these details are not captured in the reporting form used for computerized data entry of the information. The form that is utilized attempts to capture the most relevant information, and contains fields that are important for data analysis.

Once the supervisor is satisfied that the form is accurate and complete, and that the crime has been correctly classified, the data on the form are entered into the VERSEDEX database system, which allows for the collation of crime data from all police stations in Trinidad and Tobago. As of 2009, 93 per cent of police stations were networked to this system, though data entry took place in only 28 out of an approximate 77 stations. These stations function as the data entry points for the surrounding stations. Every two days the stations that are not data entry points send forms manually to their point station for data entry. CAPA has expressed the desire to expand by another 20 data entry points. Random data checks are conducted by divisional IT supervisors to detect any violations in the data entry procedures. Since the database has confidential information, requisite security protocols are in place and different offices have different levels of privilege in terms of accessing the data."
