FORMER Independent Senator Albert Sydney appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with two sex crimes against a child. He was brought to the court in handcuffs at around 10a.m and appeared before Seventh Court Magistrate Adia Mohammed. He is charged sexual penetration and indecent assault involving a 17-year-old girl.
The alleged offences occurred at Sydney's home a week ago. He was arrested by officers of the Child Protection Unit on Thursday morning. Sydney, 43, was represented by attorney Chase Pegus who made an application for bail.
Bail of $100,000 was granted with a surety and Sydney ordered to reappear in court on April 5. According to the Parliament website, Sydney was a Temporary Independent Senator from February 7, 2012 to October 17, 2012, and again between June 7, 2016, and January 16, 2018. Among the bills he debated was the Children Bill 2012, and among the motions he was involved in, was "Deficiencies in the Police Service".

Intelligence and discretion are what is needed to keep deviant behavior in the closet.
