The Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association held its Championship Finale at Wallerfield on the 20th October 2024. Some grids were noticeably smaller because drivers were either abroad or championships had already been sewn up.
In LO206 Cadets, Ethan Charan took two wins, including the Final to his older brother’s one to claim the top step on the podium. Jonathon Charran was second overall with Nialan Seecharan Jnr. taking the 3rd spot overall. Christian Phillip came in 4th overall and Kiran Bhimsingh rounded the order.
In LO206 Sportsman, Abhishek Ramdeen swept the class by qualifying on pole and winning all three races giving him the maximum 65 points. Varin Bhimsingh’s two second place finishes allowed him to take second place overall. Bradley Froehlich made his first podium appearance on the 3rd step. Shania Persad was 4th overall and disaster struck Lars Newallo in qualifying when he collided with a spun kart on the out lap leaving his kart stricken for the day.
In Rotax Mini, Axl Garcia took full points by sweeping the class, not his first time we might add. Marc “Hamilton” Chong-Ashing returned to form to take p2 in all the races. Reinaldo Naipaul was off his game this event and rounded the finishing order.
LO206 Masters was a break from the norm. Stocklyn Phillip shook things up by winning a Heat and the rain-soaked Final. This put him on the top step for the overall win. Brandon Singh found himself unfamiliar territory, P2 overall and Aaron Achan also showed that persistence pays off and took his first podium in P3. Darrel Singh rounded the overall order. Ravi Singh made a non-points guest appearance in the Final much to the crowd’s delight.
In Rotax Senior, Naomi Garcia took the 2 Heat wins but Adam Mustapha’s jet ski shenanigans in Tobago finally paid dividends with a win in a wet Final. Naomi would still claim P1 overall with Adam in 2nd. Christian Gajadhar was comfortable rounding the order but never far off the leader.
With that, the 2024 TTKA Championship came to a close with everyone looking forward to prizegiving!
