For each successive year over the last 4 years, Rally Trinidad has been showing tremendous growth. Rally Trinidad 2011 began with the Opening Ceremony on the Friday in the Hasely Crawford Stadium with 2 special night runs in front of a 2000-strong cheering crowd.

Scrutineers play an important role in many motor sports. Rallies around the world typically have a set of technical regulations to which the competitor’s vehicles must conform. The role of the scrutineer in this case is to confirm that vehicles entered for the race meet the relevant regulations. Scrutineering for Rally Trinidad 2011 was held to a sizeable crowd at MovieTowne, Invaders Bay. Cars were thoroughly inspected, weighed and safety devices were tested before being approved for competition which would start the next day. it was also a good opportunity for the sponsors to get some additional branding in and for fans and spectators to meet their favorite drivers or see their favorite cars really up close!

The Trinidad & Tobago Karting Association TTKA kicked off their 2011 Championship Season with some modifications made to their 2010 circuit track layout at ARC car park in Arima, most notable of which is the new chicane at the eastern end. Rain caused a late start but racing ran like clockwork and all events were run off before sunset. Earlier races suffered from standing water on the track causing a few more spills and thrills than usual but the water quickly dried up enough that the last few races were run on slicks.

In 1986, Trinidad & Tobago was treated to a spectacle of Motorsport that many remember as one of the greatest events they ever witnessed. The effect was such that spectators rushed on to the roads and racing had to be stopped after the second race. So great was their passion for seeing the streets of San Fernando alive with the glorious sound of full race machines at full throttle.

The sun finally broke through on Saturday 23rd October after a week of continuous inclement weather, to allow the rally boys to run their ultimate event in Preysal once more. Mother Nature had presented several challenges to the course architects and the hot sun dried out the route somewhat but still gave the rally drivers reason to be extra careful.

With two races remaining in the 2010 season the battles were far from over going into the event. Most competitors that started the season as “also rans” have developed into serious contenders and are now consistently taking home points. 2 of the 5 classes can be won today but it will take a lot of hard work and a fair amount of luck.

Solodex 5

This 5th Solodex championship event of the year, the ever expanding classes of racers showed up eager to out-drive each other in order to win the valuable 100 points that could secure them the Class title or catapult them to be a championship contender. This occasion was also one of the best-supported events for the 2010, with some 40 plus competitors stepping up to the starting line to have their shot at victory. The adrenaline was pumping as one by one each driver took on the tightly wound course hoping to get the better of their closest competitor.

With the rainy season in full swing, the heavens decided to smile on Sunday July 18, and bless the fourth Solodex event of the year with a good dose of sunshine. Twenty one competitors came out to take on the Reyos Seebaran designed course, which turned out to be one of the faster courses in recent memory. With everything ranging from a stock Honda Civic sedan to Jody Ali’s monstrous Time Attack Subaru Impreza STi, there was no shortage of action.
