Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs has called on China to do everything possible to persuade Russia to end the war on Ukraine. Vivian Balakrishnan referred to China’s “enormous influence” in a Bloomberg interview, saying the decisions made by the Xi Jinping government in the coming weeks will decide the future of the global economy.
“The big issue now is what decisions and actions China takes. If you get a deepening of the bifurcation of the global economy, of supply chains, of technology, this will be a very, very different world.”
Last month, Singapore became the first Southeast Asian country to impose sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. Some of the city state’s biggest banks have placed restrictions on financing for Russian raw materials, including suspending letters of credit in US dollars for trades in oil and liquified natural gas. The national carrier, Singapore Airlines, has also suspended return flights to Moscow, citing operational reasons.
Balakrishnan acknowledges Singapore is not known for imposing sanctions on other countries in the absence of binding United Nations Security Council approval. However, he says the egregiousness of Russian aggression meant the move was necessary.
“We believe we are at an inflection point. Little Singapore is standing up for principles and expressing a hope for the rules of engagement for this new era.”
Balakrishnan described Vladimir Putin’s invasion as, “perhaps even a bigger moment than the fall of the Berlin Wall,” adding that China must now use its influence to persuade Russia to end the war. He says failure to stop the war will result in, “a protracted quagmire for the Russians” and “decades of instability.”

Jason,
I have learnt to not beat up about the things i cannot change.
Our tax dollars are not used to benefit our country anyhow.
Russia NEVER had black slaves nor did Russia create a market to trade black people (1600-1800).
Russia NEVER participated in the Berlin conference to share Africa like some piece of goat meat (1884).
Russia NEVER colonised, underdeveloped and looted Africa's resources (1914-1960).
Russia NEVER enabled a safety net for African leaders to hide stolen funds, use these stolen funds to develop itself and then grant the same funds back to Africa as loans.
Russia never invaded and destabilized any African country (Libya, Somalia, Congo, Burkina Faso, Egypt, South Africa, et cetera).
Russia NEVER killed any of African Freedom Fighter but UK and USA have killed hundreds of of our Saviours and thousands you of our African Freedom Fighters are still languishing in different prisons and dungeons all over America.
Who killed Marcus Garvey of Black Panther USA.
Who killed Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso.
Who killed Patrice Lumumba of Congo.
Who killed Malcolm X. Of Black Panther.
Who killed Mu'ammar Al' Gaddafi of Libya.
Who killed Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Of African American.
Who Killed Tupac Sharkur.
Who Killed Fela Kuti.
Who Killed Stephen Biko of Bantu in South Africa.
Who Killed Solomon Mahlangu.
Who killed 5 million BIAFRANS.
...et cetera.
Those who did the aforementioned are the ones pushing the narrative that "Russia" has become the Boogeyman... Those who colonized and for about 100 years refused to share their technology with Africa want Africa to like those they like and hate those they hate.
Nah! Never again!
If Russia is the Boogeyman, then the west the devil himself

We have all fallen for western propaganda. Russia has far more right to go into Ukraine than the US did with Iraq.
Ukraine was directly threatening Russia with their huge military
Ukraine had stolen Russia lands like Crimea and Donesk
Ukraine has a huge NEO Nazi contingent that is getting PAID from Zalenksi
Ukraine is all up in the West's backside for years
Ukraine was heavily taxing Russian gas that passes through their country
Ukraine with the help of the US was developing Biological and Chemical weapons.
Yet, the all the media would have us convinced Putin is the next Hitler.
Putin is a good man, a man of God, a man who doesn't accept homosexuality, a man who wants the best for his people.

If there were more patients, injured or dead do you think that the media would not show more of the injured/dead for larger impact?

What's the other side exactly?
This war is primarily on Russian wanting to re-establish their Soviet imperial state. NATO encroachment was an excuse, it's Putin's lifelong dream to unite the Soviet empire and become relevant again.
This is a fight for the survival of Russia in the 21st century.
It's a fight Putin might lose though, but once Russia controls Ukraine, they control Europe's gas and will be relevant... somewhat, I don't think the west will ever trust Russia again and most sanctions will remain.
Russia will have to turn toward China, India and Pakistan for survival.
This isn't good for world stability as it forces East Vs West alliances.
Now back to Ukraine, is that right to invade? Is it right to basically destroy a democratic nation and take away their sovereignity?
There's basically no way you can justify that eh? Not to mention killing innocent civilians and taking away their country.

Analysis by Angela Dewan, CNN
Updated 2:51 PM EDT, Thu March 17, 2022
(CNN) Western leaders and security agencies are spending huge amounts of resources on getting into Russian President Vladimir Putin's head. It's a futile exercise -- at times when the West has thought Russia's war in Ukraine might be losing steam, Putin has doubled down, sending his forces to bomb maternity hospitals and shelters harboring children.
Now, an apparent pause in the advancement of Russian troops has the West guessing: Has Russia's war effort stalled? Or is it a tactical regrouping?
Either way, an incendiary Stalinesque speech on Wednesday night in which Putin called Russians opposing the war "traitors" marked a change in tone and a sign that not all is going to plan, experts said. Perhaps more worrying, many observers saw it as a sign that the head of the Russian state, facing setback in Ukraine, would take a vengeful turn at home and crack down more forcefully than ever on any sign of dissent.
While some Russians support the war, many others are protesting against it in the streets, fully aware they will be rounded up by heavily armed police even for the most peaceful of demonstrations. The Russian state has made mass protests illegal, and now, insulting the military is against the law. Still, people show up in groups, while others demonstrate entirely alone. Even lone protesters have been detained, social media videos have shown.
A journalist who jumped on camera on a state-controlled news program, holding an anti-war sign, has become a cause celebré for free speech in Russia. A renowned ballerina has left the Bolshoi. Russian prisoners of war are calling Putin out for using propaganda to justify the war.
Putin, who has enjoyed consistently high ratings in Russia, is now turning to a strategy of intimidation to keep Russians on side, experts said. His speech Wednesday hinted darkly that those Russians who do not side with him were, in essence, traitors -- chilling words in a country where mass political repressions and the Gulag system are still within living memory.

Best I can see is that the truth lies in the middle.
The Nazi movement in whatever form it exists in Ukraine enjoys some support from the state- there enough citizens that are sympathetic for it to be a problem to stamp out-but not yet at a critical mass to destabilize the country.
They have buildings given to them by the govt, marches, conferences and even a music festival
Their Numbers/presence are equally OVERstated by Putin as they are UNDERstated by Zelensky and crew.
The situation in Ukraine
DIPLOMATIC POUCH - Marat Pavlov - The Philippine Star
March 17, 2022 | 12:00am
In view of the large amount of fake news around Ukraine actively generated and promoted by the West and reprinted in the Philippine mass media, I’d like to explain to Filipino readers the goals of the special operation carried out by the Russian Federation, as well as the prerequisites for the current crisis.
The special operation conducted by the Russian Armed forces is aimed at the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, ensuring its neutral status, the protection of the people of Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as the Russian Federation from the military threat posed by NATO countries that are trying to use Ukrainian territory to create “Anti-Russia.”
These two provinces (Donetsk and Lugansk), called the Donbass region with population about six million Russian-speaking people, didn’t recognize the new Ukrainian government that came as a result of the coup d’état in 2014. They declared independence because in a state with tens of millions of Russian-speaking citizens, the new Kiev regime unleashed an uncompromising struggle against the Russian language and culture. The ideology of neo-Nazism was aggressively propagated. Extrajudicial reprisals against political opponents have become the norm of life. Pushed by the collective West, the Kiev regime was not only doing their utmost to create a cultural and ideological gap between our fraternal peoples, but mocking the sacred memory of our common ancestors who defended the world, side by side, from Nazi Germany.
For eight years, the genocide and bloody war against the inhabitants of Donbass continued. These territories were put under siege and switched off from the banking system, food supplies and payments of pensions.
For eight years, Russia has been trying to find a political solution so that these areas remain inside Ukraine. It called the Kiev authorities to comply with the Minsk agreements, but in vain. In its turn, Ukraine openly declared its willingness to become a NATO member, fully understanding that this decision will be a red line for Russia.
In December 2021, Russia requested guarantees from the US that NATO will not advance eastward, including the accession of Ukraine into the alliance and non-deployment of serious offensive weapons. But the US rejected our proposal.
Russia had no other choice but to recognize the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk and start special military operation on Feb. 24, 2022 to end the ongoing war in Donbass.
Moreover, today we know for sure that the Kiev regime, with the help of the US leadership and its NATO allies, prepared a large-scale offensive operation in the Donbass in March 2022. The confirmation of this fact are the secret documents as of Jan. 22, 2022 of the command of the National Guard of Ukraine which ended up in the hands of the Russian servicemen during a special military operation.
Ukraine, guided by the US and NATO, has become a source of not only a military threat for Russia, but also a nuclear and biological one.
On Feb. 19, 2022 President Zelensky announced a possible renunciation by Ukraine of nuclear weapons. Everybody knows that Ukraine has had nuclear and missile competencies since the Soviet times. And they also receive help with that from across the ocean.
The Kiev regime was found to have been concealing traces of a military biological program implemented with funding from the US Department of Defense. A chain of more than 30 biolabs on the territory of Ukraine was revealed during special military operation. Components of biological weapons were being developed in direct proximity to Russian territory, posing threat not only to Russia but to the whole of Europe.
Russia has no plans to occupy Ukraine. The Russian military does not carry out missile, air and artillery strikes against cities and civilians. The threat to civilians in Ukraine today does not come from the Russian military, who is targeting only military infrastructure with high-precision weapons, but from the Kiev regime, which launched terror against its fellow citizens, as well as from the “nationalist battalions” that it does not control. The nationalists deploys tanks, artillery and MLRS in residential areas. The Russian Armed Forces leave humanitarian passages for those who want to leave. But the Ukrainian army in the surrounded cities are keeping people as human shields, ignoring orders from Kiev despite the agreements reached during the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Belorussia.
The Kiev regime has released criminals from prisons and distributed firearms to them. Nobody controls the supplies of lethal weapons to Ukraine as well, including MANPADS, often used by terrorists to threaten civilian aircraft. The risks for it will persist for many years to come not only in Ukraine’s air space, but across Europe.
In spite all of this, an unprecedented information war has been unleashed against Russia. It’s being accused of all sins. At the same time Russian broadcasting channels such as RT and news agencies such as Sputnik are closed all over the Europe. Russian broadcasting platforms are banned on YouTube. Where are the vaunted freedom of speech and open access to information?
With regard to the crisis in Ukraine, I’d like to call the Philippine audience to be more cautious with the information provided by Western media outlets. Russia stands for the soonest comprehensive settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, which would ensure the security of the European continent for all countries without exception.
