I'm pissed as hell! Why are we in Trinidad so backward that we can't access fast internet on our phones in 2010!!!
3G has been around since 2003/4.
I f*cking hate waiting minutes for Google Maps to load, or youtube videos to load etc.
let me get this straight....you spoke to someone in TSTT that said they delaying the deployment of 3G becuase they already have wimax and 4G........
firstly....2g started with limited data ...ie text messages
3G is data.....with max output of 200kbit/s
4G is data...wit max output of 100Mbits/s for mobile communications ( trains and cars) and 1Gbits/s for low mobility communication (such as pedestrians and stationary users)
my point is how the firetruck you could claim to have 4G when you dont even have 3G......???
Been reliably informed that within two years both Bmobile and Digicel will launch their 3G networks. Believe it or not, in Trinidad most people still use their phones mainly for making calls and texting.

Within 2 years? Sounds about right....by that time 5G may be launching throughout the rest of the world

Now, it seems to be you have no clue about mobile technologies.
2G is not just Text, but GPRS/EDGE
3G is either
- EVDO (which only works on CDMA phones and USB dongles)
- UMTS (which has several branches of HSPA, current one produces 42Mbits! and is suported on GSM based phones)
4G is either
- LTE (will be supported on both GSM and CDMA phones)
- WiMAX (strictly limited to USB Dongles and a handful of Sprint only phones) - basically dead and slow technology compared to the latest HSPA and more so LTE.
What TSTT SHOULD have done was launch with UMTS HSPA (which was at 7.2 MBits 2 years ago) instead of WIMAX
WiMAX is dead technology. What's the sense of having mobile broadband when 99% of phones do not support WiMAX?

Well technically speaking there aren't any providers in the world that offer the real 4G speed at the moment. The current hardware that is out for cellphones does not support such high speeds. 4G as advertised by U.S carriers as well as carriers around the world(you dont need to emphasise on U.S carriers because you see their ads on t.v all the time) relates to the 4th generation of internet on phones. 1st came GPRS, 2nd was EDGE, 3rd was 3G etc, I think there was something before GPRS but I'm not sure.

This is what is going on in the US right now:
Sprint - CDMA Phones, WiMAX "4g" - typical speeds around 2.5mbits
TMobile - GSM, HSPA+ 21mbit max (which is 3G, but being marketed as 4G) - typical speeds around 4mbits
AT&T - GSM, HPSA (7.2mbit max) - Typical speeds around 1mbit
Verizon - CDMA, LTE 70 or 80mbit max - Typical speeds around 10mbits
All typical speeds were average expected customer speeds when taking into consideration shared traffic etc.
In Trinidad we are still at 2G on Mobile devices. We don't have EVDO or even the first generation 3G available on Mobile phones (available since 2001)
And we are probably one of only countries in the world like this.

Good luck I've emailed, called customer service, went into front offices, no available, lower management does not not shitt/don't care to escalate the issue.

Same here, even conversed with one of the VPs at a conference last year and his response was "We don't see a customer demand for it".......![]()

I pay $150 a month for GPRS on my iPhone 4, postpaid plan, I'm sure if they do come out with a 3G plan they will have a limit on the package or charge a ridiculous amount for unlimited.

Hopefully I get a response or some answer.
If you want to show them that we actually want this, send them an email and maybe they can shed some light;

my home connection is 5 meg (and i was quite satisfied with the previous 2 meg connection) for 200 per month with flow. but i am not home all the time.
i am, how ever, with my fone all the time, and spend any where from 50 to 100 dollars per month on calls and texts.
if i can get the equivalent of a 2 meg data flow rate on a 3g network on my phone for around the same total communications cost per month, i would seriously consider it.

quote this on digicel's and bmobile's fb page...so they go realise we mean business...btw i made a 3g/edge post on fb...http://www.facebook.com/problemkid

I am not really sure where or even why many of you think that a company is mandated to invest hundreds of milions of dollars into a service simply because it is new or that you are angry that you cannot get it. Then you will not want to pay the price for it or you will find something else to complain about.
If the service is not what you want then leave that company! What's next you will want to plug in directly to the MCI fiber link?
