Australia have really disintegrated in the face of the swinging ball.
IMO its too much T2O cricket though. Batsmen have lost some of their abilities in playing technical straight batted and patient cricket. The Indians continue to get away as they play a majority of their Tests in the subcontinent but the last two times they went England they got a 4-0 and 3-1 drubbing.

Australia 138-4 with 38 overs to go in the day. Chances of a two day match on the cards.
The ECB and broadcasters probably wringing their heads as this will be the second match where the weekend days when the most patrons come in would be more or less unused as the match would be over.

The red cherry swung like a mofo today. Starc's late swing was especially impressive. Can't imagine how a batsman suppose to defend that kind of ball.

Prediction
Aussies lose by innings and 50 runs.

Just as I said: Clark to stand down after ashes....most likely captaincy would go to Smith

Sri Lanka has quite a lot of rebuilding to do losing Murali, Vaas, Sanga and Mahela (Jayasuriya if you count ODIs as well) in the space of 5 years. All World class talent that could have filled any team.

They are also racked by corruption and mismanagement that may very well put WI to shame. Hopefully they can rebuild a decent team to compete once again. World cricket would be poorer having already more or less lost WI as a competitive team in tests and ODIs.

Given that playing in Chennai (Tamil Nadu state) was a major hold-back for teams purchasing Sri Lankan players last year and Chennai has been banned from the IPL, we may very well see Sanga and crew in the IPL next year.

Final Ashes test ongoing...last match for Clarke and Rogers.
I know Rogers is 37 years old however his scores thus far in this series are -
95, 10, 173, 49*, 52, 6, 0, 52, 43.

With one innings to go before he calls curtains on his brief career he is comfortably Australia's best batsman of the series and maybe he can go on for a year at least especially given they are already losing Clarke.

England too hot and cold. Draw to Windies, and now licks to Aussies...with more consistency, England should be rivalling SA at the top of the rankings. Aussies aren't bad, they lack consistency too.

Sanga ended with an average of 57.4 after 134 tests. Stuff of legends and only bettered by Bradman, and Sobers for player with more than 6000 test runs.

not taking away anything from his great career but i used to follow cricket alot more closely back in the day and well....

batting in the subcontinent was so easy compared to anywhere else.

SL used to make a ton of 600+ scores, and played alot of games against bangladesh.

however cricket is cricket and given the opportunities he had he made a good name for himself. He has to be in my opinion the best wicketkeeper/ batsman ever. Keeping to murali was not easy.

Considering he only played 48 of his 134 (36%) tests as a wicket keeper would you all still class him as as wicket/batsman?

The majority of his best batting i.e. most of his double and his triple centuries have come as a batsman only.

Players play the hands dealt to them. 6 matches against Zimbabwe and 15 against Bangladesh is still only a small part of his career and all test teams would have had matches against these teams as well.

In his 5 matches in Australia he went there and averaged 60. Of players who played 5 and more tests in Australia he is only bettered by Kohli, Vaughan and Trott. In 6 matches in NZ he averaged 60. In Pakistan and the UAE he avergaes 73. None of thoses locations are easy places for batsmen.

First ODI to be played under the new regulations....no more batting powerplays and instead of 4 fielders outside the ring in the last 10 overs the fielding team is now allowed 5.
Lets see if this affects scoring rates.
