Government will be moving to guarantee a loan of US$5 million to a private company—Grand Bay Ltd— in an effort to save the jobs of some 400 workers.
This was disclosed yesterday by Finance Minister Colm Imbert at a news conference at the Finance Ministry at the Eric Williams Financial Complex, Port of Spain.
Imbert said the Arima-based company which has a sister company—Trinidad Tissues Ltd—approached the ministry for assistance.

He said the Government’s decision in intervening in this case came in the current climate of job losses.
“The Government supports Exim Bank and a case being made to support the company to continue producing so as to save 400 jobs,” Rowley said.
Asked if this was new policy, Rowley said, “I expect that the bank will deal with this on a case-by-case basis. It is not every day that we are faced with a job loss of 400 jobs.” There is no record of a company called “Grand Bay Limited” in the Companies Registry...
