Still a very high ratio of vehicles to people though considering T&T is approx 1.4m people.

because all employees use their personal vehicles for work right?
not like companies, organisations, governments, buy and register vehicles and have them parked up driverless.
how does that equate to on the road?

The Minister of Finance is obviously bent on showing that the citizens of Trinidad & Tobago have far more than he thinks they should have, he sets many policies and makes many comments based on his findings that people have too much, use too much, consume too much, take advantage of, benefit from, receive too much and so it is his DUTY to ensure this stops at once! All the citizens except those in Government.

thats a good suggestion however our traffic problem isnt a "one pill solution"
everyone has to work hand in hand to ensure that traffic is eliminated.
my suggestions < and before anyone says anything - they ALL need implementation - in some form or another>
1 remove older cars - if you want to own / drive a old car be prepared to pay relevant taxes on it and inspection and also to prevent fraud - inspection would be a tri-fold process - independent garage ( your mech has to do the necessary maintenance & fill out paper work) submit car and paper work to L.O where another inspection would be done by both your mech and a L.O officer and then the final one would be an independent body ( could be foreign company no problem) where the L.O officer & your mech meet with the final person and again - re certify.
who is going to pay the final foreign company for this inspection - well the vehicle owner of course !!!
This should be done every yr ( due to the nature of our roads and poor driving habits.)
whoever has dreams to own a silvia /skyline / supra / mazda rx series/ mitsubishi Evo series / whatever else fast car / can finally own one but be prepared to pay for it.
2 - increase public transportation. -self explanatory
3. toll booths and bus / emergency lanes - for use of police fire and ambulance. if you are photographed driving your P / H / T vehicle in this lane instant 3K fine. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
3.a toll booths for vehicles who wish to drive in the city. cars that are registered as P and have a MINIMUM of 3 passengers pay a reduced toll fare as opposed to cars who only have one occupant H cars pay and even toll fare than P cars with 3 passengers.
to prevent ppl beating the system and plying a P car as taxi and going into and out of POS traffic cameras along with the license plate RFID tag can be used to track how much times a car enters and leaves a designated city.
cars that are for official company courier use however will be able to apply for a special RF-ID tag to be used on that car plate along with a sticker to be added onto the vehicle. both must correspond -
courier companies must PAY a fee for this tag. private companies that have a courier vehicle for their internal use MUST also pay for this.
4. speed limits - in between highway stretches where there is no houses / flyovers say for grand bazzar to munroe rd- a 120km limit.... from munroe to preysal- 80 kms. from preysal to san fernando 120kmh
5. delivery vehicles can enter the main cities between 6pm / 6am
off loading goods and parking up on the street when not in use.
6 staggered working hrs.< not everyone needs to be working 8-4..>> there are jobs that CAN be performed between 10-6 or 9-5. - please dont use your kids as an excuse- theres bus drivers for school pick ups now as well as caretakers for little ones.
lots more ideas.... but i'll add em on as time goes....
