Motor Maniacs Wings and Wheels: 01-02.Aug.15

After months of planning, the incredible effort by the indomitable George Leacock and Radio Tambrin was successfully executed on the weekend of 1st -2nd August. The newly-paved car park to the West of the Dwight Yorke Stadium was converted into a Motor Sport Arena with the second staging of the Motor Maniacs Wings and Wheels Event.

Originally carded for 25th and 26th of July 2015, the first drags at Wallerfield in quite a long time suffered blows from low turn out of competitors and spectators- perhaps due to the local banter over the prison break (and the clash with cricket and Autosport’s Drag and Wind), however the event was then extended to August 1st and 2nd- a good move on Speed Promotions part as the extended week brought about almost 3x the initial competitors and spectators and also better weather.

Now seen as a “Summer time” hit, the Great Crate Race grows in numbers year by year and is followed by a massive after party- some described as the best party thus far. Honours were shared at the Wallerfield Raceway over the weekend (June 20/21) when the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) hosted round two of the 2015 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship. There were eight different winners in the nine CMRC races, while TTASA deserves great credit for completing its programme, as intermittent “monsoon” conditions caused a number of delays.

More than 40 regional drivers are making final preparations for next weekend’s (June 20/21) second round of the 2015 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship. Organised by the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA), the event will christen the newly-resurfaced Wallerfield Raceway, kick-starting a new era for motor sport in the twin-island state.
